A major train derailment occurred in Glendale on Thursday afternoon, according to officials in Kentucky.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on March 16 at the Hodgenville Road crossing in Glendale.

According to a statement released by CSX, a CSX train “went into emergency attempting to avoid a collision with a semi-truck and trailer stuck on the crossing.”

Officials say that 21 railcars derailed and that “one of the derailed cars collided with an occupied vehicle near the crossing.”

The occupants of the vehicle suffered non life-threatening injuries.

No train crew members were hurt.

CSX says that there was no hazmat on board when the derailment occurred.

“We appreciate the swift response of Hardin County first responders. CSX crews are on site working closely with local emergency responders to assess the situation and develop recovery efforts. The safety of our employees and the community are our top priority as we work to restore the area,” CSX said.

Glendale resident Houston Howlett told local outlet WDRB that truckers often run into trouble at the railroad crossing where the derailment occurred. “The truck didn’t know not to go that way. There’s some small signage posted and it’s not real visible and he got stuck on the tracks and this is not the first time this has happened. We stop trucks all the time,” Howlett said.

Probably would have been better to just take out the truck? Wonder if he was hauling a pre cast bridge beam?

"Twenty-one rail cars derailed as CSX crew tried to avoid a semi truck on the tracks" So the train swerved off the the train tracks to avoid the truck, didn't know they could do that, must be a steering wheel in those things.

Looks like the same reporter wrote this, and the one about the train hitting the.(loaded)empty grain trailer. The railroad are the bad guys now.

Trucks getting hung up, (Trailer high centering) on crossings is too common. There should be a warning at steep grade crossings if the road cannot be raised or lengthened to allow a more gradual approach. I can understand how a young or inexperienced driver could make that mistake. Maybe our brilliant Transportation Secretary can work on this.

This is nothing new, back in the 60s car haulers were the victims.
Winston Salem N C was a bad place for those crossings.
