Man sentenced for TV thefts

A Catonsville man convicted of stealing a truckload of plasma television sets worth more than $100,000 from his employer was sentenced yesterday to three years in prison, according to T. Wayne Kirwan, a spokesman for the Howard County state's attorney's office.
Howard County Circuit Judge Louis A. Becker sentenced Robert Nicholas Pyle, 38, a former trucking terminal manager for Watkins Motor Lines, to 15 years in prison for theft of items worth more than $500 and 10 years for second-degree burglary. Becker suspended all but three years of both sentences.
In addition, Becker ordered Pyle to spend five years on supervised probation and repay his former employer about $61,600.
The Hitachi television sets and the tractor-trailer in which they were stored disappeared from Watkins' Annapolis Junction trucking terminal in April 2004. They were scheduled to be delivered to Circuit City stores. The truck was later found empty, and the television sets were never recovered, Kirwan said.
A Howard County jury convicted Pyle in January.
