Hoffa's leadership(or lack there of) has made the teamsters union a shell of it's former self. You know the leadership of this union is weak when they walk lock step with ups on trying to sell this contract.

To the company I say bravo, you own the union leadership, they are your flunkys.

If the ol' man was still around, {and I believe he might be}, he would slap the kid and tell UPS to shove that contract up their hootenanny... So to speak...

Dear Curmudgeon,

I'm assuming you are a UPS freight employee, who is very fortunate to be a participant, in a single employer pension fund. I. E. in a plan with real money in it. Not promises born from crooked numbers.

Multi employer plans are self insured by the still contributing employers. Just imagine how big a raise Jimmy Jr. could have gotten you, if UPS package didn't have to pay for all of those orphan pensions.

I'm not focusing on the raise, it's the contract in general. The pension is OK, just OK, not great. Nothing is certain anymore, a less than 5% increase over 5 years, add a COLA formula, that would be great. It does not address the difficulty in attracting quality new-hires, that's the core of the problems here at UPGF, the part-time mentality of UPS, we need to attract people with the desire to build a career in this industry with it's long hours, hot, cold, wet, and difficult conditions.
Despite what is said we are still part of UPS, they have shown little ability to run an LTL operation, and no signs of wanting to learn how. For the 14 or so years they have operated UPGF they have forced their part-time, numbers only driven philosophy on an industry with way more variables than the small-pack division. They took a thriving LTL company, profitable and for the most part well run and in my opinion are failing. Damages are incredible, poor decisions by unqualified low and mid-level management are costing far more than anything my Brothers and Sisters are doing, we " work as directed" and for the most part do it well and safely. The "we are losing money" doesn't wash with me, they need to hold their managers accountable for the mistakes and poor decisions that cost FAR more than they are aware. I see p/t supervisors do NOTHING for hours, play on their phone, talk on their phone, wander around aimlessly, then yell at someone for something stupid. This is the core problem, the parts are there to make UPGF a giant in the LTL field, someone needs to put them together.
As to the economics of the proposal, I find the raises almost insulting. As to the mileage increase, it is exactly 20% of the raise on our last contract, and the even had that split in 6 month sections. That works out to $.96 cents a WEEK per 1000 miles, how will we attract new companies to look at us and say, " We need to go Union, look at what they do for their people", sadly not going to happen. The two-tiered pay scale is the beginning of the end, anytime you sell out your future, you have failed.
Nobody needs to feel sorry for me, I do well, I am in my opinion respected by my Union peers, my fellow drivers and the mid, and upper level management I deal with. That is good enough for me. I do feel our once Great Union is on the the verge of loss of influence, and it shows. The Union sponsored "vote yes" campaign, the Company having meetings about the "vote". The will of our people is not being addressed, and that's sad...
I am at the end of my career, this will be my last contract, I was hoping to leave our future Brothers and Sisters a contract they could be proud of, and take them into the future with a sense of hope. Sadly I don't see it...

Also, before we went Teamster we had a decent pension AND a 401 K with a company match to 6%. They took that away when we went to the Union. That match was "free money", hated to see that go....
At let's say $80.000 a year 6% is $4800 times 2 = $9600 X 10 years = $96,000. Not knowing the exact rate of capital gains, I won't even try to calculate that. That's a lot of "lost" potential retirement income...

They matched $0.50 on the dollar up to 6 percent. So basically the match dollar-for-dollar up to 3%.
I won't argue your point, I am a no vote on several key issues, but I still show up and do my job, and do it well. As will the vast majority of us all...

You hit it. I have people close to me that work for csx who say the same thing about teamsters leadership. They are bought and paid for

Another minor(at this point ) complaint i have is that they put my friggin picture on the front of the latest flyer they mailed out urging everyone to vote yes.

1) They never asked for my permission.

2) i was NEVER pro yes, or pro no for that matter. At this point i am still officially "undecided." So i think this was unfair to me. If anything, one of the business managers at the local union thinks i'm against the new contract.

Oh well, what can i do----i was out in public----and you're fair game for pictures, videos, etc......

Actually you need to contact an attorney. Just because you were in public doesn't give them the right to use your image.

Your vote can be changed by the IBT Officials are not happy with the way you voted. It is in the IBT Constitution. Don't believe me? Talk to the UPS men in Louisville, KY. They can explain it very well.

It can't be changed...if they don't get at least 50 percent plus one participation then the contract passes even if everyone votes no it still will pass..so it's important to vote

I disagree. My impression is the Louisville, KY UPS men & women voted by 90% to turn down the offer (2 or 3 times). After the 2nd or 3rd turn down the IBT Officers negated the local vote & forced the lesser contract on them. Please, if I am wrong someone set me straight. I believe it is in the Constitution of the IBT that the officers can force a contract on what the rank & file have turned down after going thru steps mentioned in said Constitution. If I am wrong, someone please show me why I am wrong Thanks. von.

Is that a supplement?? If so I have to resarres..but I am told by my local 676 and a officer of 107 if we don't get more than 50 percent members voting the contract passes even if everyone votes no the contract passes

What happened is the teamsters became a Socialist Political front for the radicals in the Democrat party.
Hoffa stood next to Obama while he promised to renegotiate NAFTA boasting is was a bad deal for US workers..
Hoffa was silent while Obama did nothing on NAFTA
The teamsters are just another lobbying group to support radical anti law enforcement Socialists...
Very sad...
But the good news is more illegals are here to lower your salary.....
Enjoy it, you paid for it......
