I'm certain they're doing it for the well being of their employees, and not to make money... insert eye roll here.
In 2018 Anthem increased their profits year over year by 234%.
The insurance industry is a trillion dollar industry, is terribly profitable and an $1800/year increase in premiums will be multiplied 10× over once used for it's actual purpose which is to invest in the market which is how insurance companies and self insured companies make huge profits.
The company has placed this penalty on the employees with families many of which are senior employees. Make no mistake this was done by design, and does nothing to cover the real reason for increased healthcare costs. How many part time employees are enrolled in our insurance? How many have a full time job that they are supplementing which offers them insurance at a significantly higher employee cost? What penalty are these employees paying?
I'll answer the last question for you...they are not. Those of us with a working spouse are.
