A woman is dead after being struck by a semi truck that ran a red light in Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened at around 4 p.m. in Ocala, Florida at the intersection of N U.S. 441 and NW 20th Street.

According to Ocala News, a semi truck was heading north toward the intersection of N U.S. 441 and NW 20th Street as a motorist was heading west on NW 20th Street in the same intersection. The semi truck then approached a red light and began blasting the horn before plowing through the intersection.

The motorist was attempting to turn south onto US 441 and was already crossing the northbound lane when they were struck by the honking semi truck. The semi truck collided with the driver’s side door of the car, which pushed the car sideways and into the median.

The female driver of the car was promptly transported to a nearby hospital where she passed away from her injuries.

Investigation reveals that the truck driver had been diverted into Ocala due to a shut down on Interstate 75 from an earlier semi truck accident. The names of the drivers involved in the crash have not been released and the incident is still under investigation.
