ABF | “No Givebacks!”: ABF Bargaining to Start

What it all boils down to is corporate greed, if abf wants out of the ltl business then so be it. The freight has to go somewhere & companys will be so quick to hire experienced ltl drivers most will not be out of work long.
How sad, but oh how true. von.

They'll run the Union side of this company down to about maybe 400 people nationwide,......and subcontract out city and linehaul work all over. The language is there now, and they'll use the driver shortage to their best advantage,.....to claim they can't find "qualified" people.

They'll spend much money and move heaven and earth,....to find SALESPEOPLE! THOSE are the most important "employees" this company has,....in the eyes of our management......

One truck driver is as good as another,....and why deal with those whiny, stinky , demanding Union people, when you can have your freight hauled by some unshaven, slovenly fool with an I.Q. lower than the speed limit, and a truck payment that'll bankrupt him in a couple of months, because he needs to replace the bald tires, shoddy brakes, flapping fenders,...and bug-infested mattress in his "home away from home"?

We all see the......"quality"........of the subcontractors that bump our docks to unload freight,.....and that includes the Panther drivers,....in the torn and filthy T-shirts, floppy drooping shorts, and untied shoes. What's the point of us being in ..."mandatory"....uniforms if the bulk of our freight,....under ABF Logistics Bill of Ladings ,......are being delivered by people who look like they've just come from the company picnic of the second shift of the Neversweat Copper Mine of Bugscuttle, Nevada?

I think I'm going to start taking pictures of these...."contractors"....who show up at our dock.......Some of these men......and women.....are startling in their sartorial appearance,.....shocking deshabille of dress.....and sheer numbers of visible tattooes........I guess this is the new Skill and Will the company is going for as the future face of who is going to handle ABF freight......

Ever noticed how people change their interactions with someone when they know their voice is being recorded or being filmed. It's amazing to watch how they change. I once pulled out my recorder during an inquiry @ work & placed it on the table telling them the mike picked up their voices much better out of my shirt pocket. The look & response on their face was worth the price of admission. And the # 1 question they ALWAYS ask, is 'how long has that been on?'. Priceless. von.

Hah! You tell 'em it's been on for years.......

Actually the Olympus digital recorder I have been using for a long time has a great mike in it, & picks up the voices just fine. I only did that because they were on a fishing expedition for more info on another fellow employee & pissed me off. I did turn off the recorder after they told me to. A few questions with answers like ‘I don’t recall” or ‘I don’t remember’ & the meeting ended quickly. Like a bully in the school yard, never back down, & do unto them as they do unto you. In 17 years I received 7 letters & 3 stuck, the other 4 were retracted. And of those 3, I had them coming, so no complaints. 050 was a pretty good barn to work in. But the last 5 years the management @ the Fort made ABF an unfriendly place to work in. I really believe they made it their mission to remove the Will from ‘The Skill & the Will’.

I think ABf would be more flexible on wages etc. if they weren't the only company paying full NMFA wages & benefits. If YRC was still paying what was agreed to on the last contract the playing field would be more level. If YRC was was paying the wages/benefits that ABF is that would pressure the non union companies to up their wages to attract & retain employees. ABF would then be competitive with pricing. That may be the reasoning behind a two year contract which would put YRC to the end of the wage reduction agreement if there isn't another extension given before 2015. The discounting that YRC gives takes ABF out of contention for a lot of freight. I don't any way to force YRC to pay full wages & start paying into the pension fund but that would solve a lot of ABF's problems.
Speaking of Yrc,do you guys know that if you do not pick where your 401k money is invested it goes to Yrc? The teamster people puts this money where the want to this happened to a employee of Abf. He called and had it changed.I wonder how many Abf employees are not aware of this?

BS

Notice the effort to spend money again? painting, sprucing up? painting lines in lots, fixing buildings, etc.. will they be called out on their tactics? no, just bargained with accordingly, will the IBT audit them and call them out on the movement of monies throughout the ARCBEST system? Nope.. just will be passed on down to us to reap the BS. I for one, if faced with worsening conditions am gone.. already now the worse paid road drivers, vacation and now this UE, change of Op stuff. Pension will be bankrupt in 10 years,, and everyone fought to protect? protect the cuts from going broke in 10? what do you think is going to happen? a bail out? ABF to help us? The IBT who put us here to begin with? The YRC drivers who now work for us and will for 2 yrs and retire, those that voted for a decade and a half of cuts and pension fund slashing? wake up everyone,, worker greed, no union backbone, just union members to reap benefits.. sickening..

That's what I can't understand about ABF it's just like any other job now, no one beating down the door to work here. As for yrc I can't see how anyone can justify 5 givebacks, I understand so need the medical but if your 20,30 & even 40s run for the door because I don't see it getting better at either company

Did you dream that up all by yourself?

And now with this rubber mulch at #2000 per pallet we'll need more to money to share with the chiropractor. :ranting2: Don't these people even think about the delivery end of this ::shit::?

One of our driver had 2 skids of it the other day, residential of course he called the customer & asked if they had help if he needed it she replied don't you have a forklift. By far we do more residentials then business anymore, not to mention the deliverys between 3 & 6 so the when p/ups are heavy we miss them, it's no big deal customers have come to expect a phone call asking if they can wait a extra hour or two because we don't have anybody. The reason for this is all we do is deliver all day everyday....

We should put that on our tag along and deliver with forklift. Sent out a full load of it and make a day out of it. That would not be a bad gig.

No, they don't ABFer. Look at all the crap freight to crap locations we deliver to? And let's not forget about those extra-long pallets where the wheels on our pallet jack forks hit directly on those boards on the bottom of the pallet! What value-less, soul-less idiot designed that pallet?!?!?!

And it is not like they just don't know, we tell them about it plenty right here, they just don't care. But we're to go out and give them our skill and our will and git 'er done. If they would at least take us out in the lot, climb up into that trailer and demonstrate to us dummies how we're supposed to do it safely I would have a tad of respect for them. But nooooooooo can't do that, no instructional video, no nothing. I just can't figure out how I'm supposed to do it.
