XPO | Slipping bars

I remember thinking how ridiculous that bump test for each beam end was, until they started to wear out and fall on your head just by looking at them funny.

Too bad good beams are impossible to find- I could go through a good sized pile of them just about every night.
we got some in last winter they were all gone within 2hrs. The metal dumpster was full though

Yeah .. I haven't seen extra bars or the tools at our dock for a couple years now. We asked about them but got no response.
We have the supplies and tools to replace bars, too bad every barn doesn't. It's really an easy fix. Order parts, replace when needed. If you make it too difficult, people won't bother. How far will you walk to...... get a roll of shrink wrap, a broom to sweep a trailer, the bander to band a skid, even dunnage? Some do, some don't. I used to do whatever it takes to do it right. Now, not so much. Not proud to say it either. Just how I feel about the company.

A point to remember, always have a bar tool with you or a dock plate hook. My priority!

You said a mouthful there. It's getting harder with each passing month to work here because for me, it seems like the company now cares less about it's customers, both external and internal and more about how ebitda, Ebitda, and EBITDA!!

I know they shouldn't but,a lot of guys at our barn don't replace the bars because we are tracked on the hand helds and the times that's it takes to fix them doesn't show and you can't seem to explain to them what you was doing. They brow beat us Dailey that the hand helds are telling them were not productive enough. It's coming to all terminals soon.

Then you drive over to the time clock and swipe on "equipment maintance" fix the bars and then punch back to which every dock code you need to be on.

I agree. I tell everyone I care about three things. The customers freight, my fellow drivers (most of them), and me getting my freight and myself home safe from the FAC.

Funny how the higher ups go through phases of what's important. Motor moves, damages, tonnage, load factor, load average. The list goes on and on. In my 13 years here, I've never been told to increase my productivity.. and I might average 5-6 mm/hr. But I'm also always busy working, not having long conversations with other drivers, not in the break room etc. if you are working steady, I'd tell them to pound sand.

Why punch on a different code when they go in and change them. And don't say they dont because there keeping an eye on it

Same with me, I haven't changed the way I do anything and nobody says a word

Sounds the company needs to to allocate more funds to deck beams... but that would involve spending money. It's pretty easy to see what the price of safety is...

It's not about the company allocating the money, it's about the tm ordering the supplies they need to do the job. I'm talking placards, nails, straps, bars, banding materials, shrink wrap etc. when I used to work the o/b dock before my linehaul run, I would leave a note or email for the tm and he would order anything we needed. No problem. Nobody (drivers, dockworkers or FOS) takes the time to let the guy know what we need to do the job so what can you expect? That's just at my place though. Heck, in Newburgh, they can't even get the trash cans emptied on the dock. No kidding! Its pathetic, but I can't say that I blame Jacobs for the lack of bars on our dock.
