I just happened across this article by some lawyer that claims airplane pilots are forced to retire at 65,why not truck drivers?

He is saying after 65 truckers are not equiped mentally,or physically for the challenge of making split-second decisions at high speeds when they are driving.

Well this isn't fair,as maybe some may not be,but to target everyone over 65 is just wrong in my opinion.

You can read what this guy wrote, and judge this issue for yourself.

BRILLIANT! So he's saying older truckers need to be stripped of their ability to bring in a paycheck because they've reached a milestone in their age? Excuse me?
While he's at it, let's rip the regular driver's licenses of all the 4-wheeler drivers at the same age ok? Make about as much sense I'm thinking.
Statistics show the largest segment of the population involved in accidents of ALL kinds, but ESPECIALLY fatalities are those in the 16-25 year old range. How about some enforcement for the rules already on the books regarding everyone?
Yes, statistics also show a higher percentage of incidents involving older - MUCH OLDER - drivers, than with the people in the middle. When I say much older - I'm talking 70+.
Health care has enabled people to live longer and be productive longer. I don't know about you folks, but where I work, they're jacking UP the retirement age so a lot of us who were looking forward to retirement at 65 have put that pipedream behind us for at least another five years.
So if this yahoo is going to push for reforms to sideline those truckers out there on our roads at 65 - who's going to take care of their income? Him? Riiight.
What an idiot.

Drive safe ya'll - I'm out there too!

I am curious about this statistic... is that overall? or per mile driven? I remember reading somewhere that the <25 and >65 have the highest accident rates, but if you look at the number of miles each group drives, it is the >65 that have the highest accident rate per mile.
I'm not in favor of pulling anyones license for no reason, however, I have to wonder if the states should get a little stricter on drivers over 65. There are already many rules and regulations for teen drivers (at least in some states) so why not implement a few on older driver.

That would be great to retire at 65, comparing airline pilots to truck drivers isn't very much of a comparison though, pilots make 3 times what the average truck driver does, they usually have a retirement program that is funded by someone other than theirself, if I made what a pilot did, forget the retirement program, I could afford to retire at 55, on my own. Besides all that, much more is at stake when flying a comercial airplane than when driving a truck down the road.

This is nonsense. I knew a driver who at 78 was still pulling propane tanker rigs down the road. Sure, he was an exception, but the point is that not every driver needs to pack it in at 65.

If "they" were really concerned about safety they would get rid of this idiotic 14 hour rule we have to function under.
Age doesn't seem to be a factor as we all have to be checked every 2 years anyway.
