FedEx Freight | my thoughts on my management at my barn

No Sir, we have not gotten any soap in our bathroom yet. The only thing that he is focused on is his numbers, everything else to him is B.S. and he doesnt care cause it has no effect on him. One day I called to get a OS&D exception number, he answered the phone. I gave him the pro number, gave him the information about the skd. Then he said to me, "oh I dont know how to do an exception number, here talk to another supervisor", then he put me on hold. I was like really??? For real????? It's either one of two things,

1. he really doesnt know how to do it.
2. he really does know how to do it, but doesnt want his name on it.

He is a SCM, my common sense tells me that he SHOULD KNOW HOW to do an exception number. He is the boss. The best part is he doesnt know how to dispatch road drivers. Umm excuse me, but if he cant do his job he should get a coaching session and get re-educated on the those two things. He knows how to do his job, he is just good at B.S. He isnt stupid. He is actually pretty smart. I just dont get why he has to play stupid all of time. It makes no sense.
Sounds about right look at what is on the roads nowadays in the BIG trucks. A lot of morons driving trucks like a sports car.

1. FXF - 32%
2. Con-way - 35%
3. FXNL - 36%
4. ABF - 38%
5. YRC - 62%
6. UPSF - 62%

The high score does NOT win this game, boys.

ok guys the sooner everybody with this company realizes that they only care about making the numbers look good to "good ole fred" the better off you will all be.
I was called by rat reed about a issue that came up about the whole management team around ATL only to be brushed off. people lie about stuff all the time with this company and nobody cares who it affects. this is a really bad company now and they don't care about anybody here so the best thing you can al do is vote yes when you have the chance....

Im supposed to get warm and fuzzy feeling now knowing they have the best rating out of the others whatever spots like this can be bought just like everyother poll or survey.I have never drove just deplorable equipment as I have here sorry but this stuff is junk maybe you folks at places where there is a shop your stuff is good to ride but the little centers forget it and tired of being made to feel like it is ok for the trucks to be like that because of the big money they pay or whatever.Like was stated in another post they dont care bottom line and they have so many people here that will just get in and go no questions asked so untill guys deadline the stuff in big ways it wont be fixed at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Yeahhhhhhhh, not exactly a survey or a poll. It's the government's safety ratings based on violations from roadside inspections.

It takes at least a little while for the ignoring of equipment manifests itself into citations on the road. Viking was usually ignored at the truck scales. FedEx Freight, not so much. When you start ignoring the little stuff, it adds up to big stuff. You save a couple of bucks here, but then you pay bigger bucks later because you have equipment stopped at a scale or inspection. So for every fraction of a dollar saving in not having set checks, you RISK hundreds if not thousands in downtime and fines.

But what do I know? I'm just a stupid driver.

If this is the most deplorable 'junk' you have ever drove it is obvious you haven't been around this profession very long.

Try driving a Road Commode for ten hours...or a cabover Cornbinder with no air ride...Bostrom spring ride seat on a Rayco suspension. How about the old F Model Macks...five speed transmissions...and what ever you do don't miss a gear...if you did then you had to start all over from a dead stop. No power steering...no air conditioning...and a heater that barley works if it worked at all. Add a winter front and maybe...just maybe you will get enough heat to warm your feet and legs every hour enough to get the numbness to disappear. Driving hour after hour in numbing cold wearing insulated coveralls, heavy boots and gloves...many times with a blanket across your lap trying to keep out the cold.

And that is just the winter mess...summer heat was just as bad.

And this doesn't entail all the myriad of breaksown stress that came with being on the side of the road with no means of communication...(no cell phones back then)...only the courteousness of fellow drivers got you through. Then having to wait hours and perhaps days for a repair to get you back on the road...hoping to get the job done...make a buck and get home to see the family before having to do it all over again.

And lets not forget the cabover FreightShakers...with a steering wheel bigger than your kitchen table...standing up in the cab trying to turn the wheel as you are backing into a customer's dock.

This new breed of 'truck driver' cracks me up...

If their AM/FM isn't working it gets red tagged (I have seen it happen!)...

Some people don't know how good they have it....

As I understood in our RSM meeting, the data goes back 24 months, and does not include any violations for the west prior to the merger; in other words, anything that happened under West's D.O.T. number wouldn't apply to FedEx Freight, Inc. I'm not sure if that validates your point or otherwise, but thought I would throw it out there.

But Rat trucking was fun in them days wasn't it or we still wouldn't be here.I remember the tables at the truckstops where set up where you and your buddies could sit there and have a conversation. Nobody was out to take all your money.Everybody was friendly. I miss those days. Now it all about me crowd and screw you. Oh I loved the GMC astros myself. Seemed like you where in a airplane cockpit ,where the dash wrapped around you.
 
I thought I was the only dummy that thought that about the astros, what about the heater box in the passenger floor, remember the 2 stroke Detroit you get it started this time of year it would sit and run up and down til it warmed up, then drive it trying to blow it up but if it had water and oil in it you couldn't. And don't you dare shut it down til you get home.

If you where lucky you would get a roof mounted air conditioner.Like I said if you where lucky. Seen them never got one.

Yep remember them days you had to put 1 foot on dash to get enough to back in to a dock. How about trying to blindside in down a narrow alley. But then you could pull into a truckstop and get out, go inside get a free meal while someone would fuel, wash windows, sweep out floor, check the oil and tires, empty the ashtray, and all of your stuff would still be there when you got back inside. The Good Ole Days.
 
Loved driving on unpaved roads with no power steering. Construction and mill sites. Crank and crank the wheel to get it where you want it and WHIRRRLLLL....
Steer tire would hit a rut and steering wheel would spin back in opposite direction. Fingers and elbows were always sore.

Bias ply tires with tubes covered with patches. Sharp rock or a curb you would more than likely flatten one. Sadly I got to the point I could change a truck tire faster than I could change a car tire.
 
you tellem rat been doing this since the stone age no power no air cab overs and yes b model macks were a new truck in the fleet when i started and they were at least 10 years old at the time

My first delivery was made with what they called a drom tractor or dromadary unit, had a big box behind the tractor where a door would flop down across the 5th wheel and you would load freight in it. Alot of fun trying to back them in anywhere.

Thats right rat you tell me how it was well that was then this is now Kinnda figured should not have said anything on this board .You old dogs talk about the good old days well those are gone and no im not talking about the am fm not working fuzz nuts.Let me guess big shop where you are and as far as the eye can see R12000, oh and maybe a Reclased R8000 series.No clue and whatever run your ********** about whatever old man.Sorry I expected more out of a company that expects so much from it associates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Trucks with cab mounts rotted out and the heaters not working correctly are real problems,that arent a joke to the dot Very different times we live in now cant just ignore stuff anymore.....
 
They don't care at mine either.Someone came up with a idiotic idea of decking delivery trailers,we said it wouldn't work.But we are "Dumb Truck Drivers" they have comfortable chairs with wheels,a desk and a Computer so they know what their doing.Its failing Big Time,But their still doing it.Its not about us anymore,they careless about you.They feed this "WE" stuff down your throat and some buy it.I like my job,im just tired of Morons running the show.Just because you went to college doesn't mean you know everything.All i can say drivers need to stick together and stick up for one another.If your a snitch stop!! Now there is more camaraderie in the City then the Road,so you see where the work is needed.If we don't stick together,who is going to watch out for us.
