Yellow | recalled to 100
Just got a call from supervisor at 100 NRM. Happy but cautious, have been laid off since 12/04/09. Called Union hall and learned that my membership has been suspended because I'm 4 months behind on dues. They want me to pay $800.00 for a re-initiation fee, I'm broke trying to support a family of 5 on unemployment. I value my job and love my union but this is going to hurt, any suggestions?
To hell with your pos local and bigger pos union officials! If they're doing it to your they are doing it to others and most won't speak up because they probably fear retaliation more from the pos union then any pos company. I'd show up there on Monday with that letter and a local tv reporter and shove a camera in their stank-in 2 faced head and listen to all the stuttering about how it was just a mistake. This is the kind of stuff that has to be brought out in the open if it is to ever quit. And if you do this they won't dare try to screw with you again. All this over a goofy withdrawl card! Unbelieveable!!!

That`s a good idea about the tv reporter with a camera, but the local would send out some secretary to say all the union officials are out of town and she can`t comment on it.

Hopefully this thread can become a "teachable moment" for everyone. Keep yourself informed of the rules, and follow them.

I hope that the Union does show you some compassion for your situation, but everyone take notice. When you have a question about any of this stuff, don't be afraid to contact the hall, that's what we pay them for.

Good luck with your situation.

Yea that's crazy, I paid I think $450 back in 87 or so to join the union in Md. Guys down here in North Carolina
only had to pay $45 to join......... If you do have to pay the $800, Just make payments to the local...... I think they will let you make a payment a month. How about $1 a month for 800 months, minus the 15% of course!

Thanks to all of you for your advice! BA John Murphy from local 25 returned my call right away and told me that I would only have to pay my back dues and I would be all set. I have to laugh though because I was due to return to work on Mon. 4/12 and I was laid off again by Tue. 4/13. Too friggin funny. I know it probably won't last I'm sure I'm just being brought in to cover during the vacation period. Any way thanks again to all of you and thanks John Murphy for getting back to me right away and taking care of things!

Glad to hear the good news about only the union dues being owed. Sorry to hear about being layed off again. I guess one never knows what to expect from day to day. Don`t forget to get a withdrawl card to avoid this problem again. Good luck. Hope you get recalled permanently soon.

From what I know about local 705 in Chicago that has never been an issue as a matter of fact 705 will remind it members to take a withdrawal card in the event of a lay off . Their pretty good on things like that when it comes to helping out some guy that's had a bad time with family emergency's and things like that .We always take a collection for a brother teamster. I know we'll hear some bad things about 705 as well. So bring it on !

Nothing bad about that, Buddy, we used to take collections all the time in the Rdwy barn in Brooklyn when it was needed (seemed like there was 1 or 2 a week). Local 707 guys are more than willing to help out.

We have even taken collections for dispatchers who had been off on medical.
I would donate to help a dispatcher also....as long as they were donating to the employees when the employees were in need. I will assume that this dispatcher donated to employee causes.

There will be some recalls, trust me. The things that I have learned, heard, and the case studies I have done on YRC, everything will be just fine. The freight will come back in groves. I just hope that deal in China pays off. YRC needs to speed things up with some new technology. Try getting some RFID's on the dock for starters. Got to have the up-dated technology to compete in a Global Economy. Get rid of the 1980 Roadway garbage computer system first.

Does anyone know if this site allows to show power points?

recall 20 back @ 431 hear a fex driver say one they sale guy say they are backing off of the big discount .

Things appear to be operating much smoother at many terminals. It seems many of the lower management kept were the best and everyone seems too be integrating well and getting the job done.

First full week back 4/19-4/23 ended up with 49.25 hours and thought that was pretty good! Following week 4/26-4/30 worked 2 days then laid off again? I see the stocks are still really in the toilet and I hope something good happens pretty soon, it still does not look very promising.
In the meantime I'll take as much work as I can and keep my fingers crossed.

I talked to a dock guy at 853 midland.when they changed systems the dock asked the puter tech why they were changing over to the roadway puter system.he said it was really cheap.

Exactly why they lost a ton of business in the merge. I was there on the dock at CVE the day it happened. Was very ugly. Yellows setup was old but worked fine, Roadways was from 1983. Wow 3 colors on your screen after using a Windows based setup at Yellow. But of course YRC goes with the cheaper, way outdaded Roadway setup. What a way to run a 6 billion dollar a year company.
Well, used to be.
