We're being told that the new "Change of Operations" will permit the "Utility Employee" drivers that come into the South Chicago terminal to drop and hook their own units. Got news for ABF, It ain't gonna happen. We have a contract that states "any yard work will be done by Local 710 yard hostlers". These drivers will be treated as our turn drivers from Dayton. They will park, wait and when their unit is hooked by a 710 yard hostler, you will be allowed to return to your unit and haul ass out of town. Thanks for stopping by!!! And if our "Freight Division boss" thinks otherwise he can come to Chicago and kiss our collective asses cause he don't run Chicago like he thinks he runs Texas. No disrespect to Texas or any Texan. ABF is not Yellow or Roadway. We know how to make
money and run efficiently. I do realize that ABF is the tail and YRC is the dog but just because YRC people are willing to accept just about anything that YRC shoves down their throats doesn't
mean we should have to accept the same bitter pill. Again, no disrespect but these people are hanging on to their jobs for dear life and I can't say that I blame them. Just by shear numbers, ABF will have to eventually go by what YRC votes for. But not so fast Mr. Freight division boss. We do still have our "Local 710 Dock and Yard Contract" that was in effect when our Sec.
Treasurer let our autonomy somehow slip away on us. So now our Sec. Treasurer will be able to say "hey guys, my hands are tied. It's not me, it's the International" while he still collects his
$430,000 salary. How the f%$* did this get by us. And BTW, what makes him think he deserves to make over seven times more then any of us can make in a great year. And not ever have to
where a pair of work boots or freeze his ass off in the winter when it's twenty degrees below with the wind chill or sweat his ass off in the summer when it's 120 degrees in a hot trailer.
I expect to get screwed by the company. I don't expect to get screwed by my own "UNION" and when I do, I start to think of ways to oust our "Local Union Leaders". I'm not as proud to be a Teamster as I was years ago. But I still am. And when a good union supporter like me can say something like this, something has gone wrong. Our union officials have lost touch with the people they are representing. Is it like this all over the United States? I sure the hell hope not. Have a nice day my friends.

Im not trying to disagree with you but if the change goes through you cant tell someone he cant drop his own trailer if he is told to. Dont forget a change of operations is just that, The way things are done is changed, doesnt matter if its the way freight is run, who has head haul, or who does the work. If the company and this so called union agree to something then thats final. Sorry brother but thats the way it is and pobably always will be.
Good luck to every body!!!!

One thing I would like everyone to remember in all of this is that your fellow union brothers are not at fault. If a driver comes on your yard and due to a change of operations (approved by the union and backed by the best contract ever) is told his job is to drop out his set and hook before leaving, that is what he has to do. He is not the one making that call and your problem is with the company and the union, not him. I have seen other fellow employees take out their frustrations on the guys that are just doing what they are told and trying to make a living. As far as I am concerned if you go out of your way to make a fellow employee's life miserable when he is just trying to make his way in life, you become the problem and should take a step back.

Not to disagree, but under the utility employee, according to the contract, he is allowed to do his own drop and hook, no matter where he is at.

We are being told here in Ohio that road drivers are going to transfer to EOL terminals to be ue's on the CITY BOARD to pull our loads to DC's. Sound like road work? Doe's to me.These guys are not going to be ue's, they are going to be 8 hours a night road drivers on the city board. Road drivers are being phased out except for long haul, trust me this is just the beginning. Wake up road drivers, wake up union halls, wake up Hoffa! If the company wants to change the contract it must be voted on (yrc). They can change the direction of the freight and domiciles and so on, but contract language must be voted on. Chech it out, raise some eyebrows, don't just take it............

First off I have to say I totally agree with Grover. Secondly please do yourselves a favor and get out your contract book and read Article 3 section 7. Its explains the utility language. If you don't have a contract book, Google National master Freight Agreement and read it online. Its all in there. Lastly we may not like this but just like the folly at YRC. We did vote on the contract

I hate to say it Red Spotter but it is bad in many locals. But the good news is we can get rid of them. I will be trying to help my local officials run into retirement. And I am from Local 407 Cleveland Ohio. They are the biggest ass kissers in the world. You would think that with all the money we pay them they could afford some BALLS!

But don't miss read this any of you non union drivers. We are still strong in our TEAMSTER ROOTS. We just have a bunch of house cleaning to do. YOUR BROTHER WITH THE BIG BROOM IN MY HAND ALWAYS!

The company wants more and more u.e.'s They want to eliminate the paid drop and hooks ,the layovers ,empty miles ,and paying road drivers while waiting for their loads. I'm sure this was all in the plans when we voted no on the wage concession.Check the contract, we were told that a u.e. can work any job class, dock ,city or hossler. Good luck to all, it's gonna be a bumpy ride !!!

The U E driver is a Teamster too, and usually a junior man that has to take the run because it is forced. They handle expedited freight and can work across all classifications as instructed. I have done this job as a senior driver when I was at YRC, at the time of the Yellow/Roadway merger running into Atlanta from Montgomery, AL for 10 months before they cancelled the bid. There was a lot of hostility, and some hardcore brothers in Atlanta, but never the less, I could drop and hook, bump and pull my assigned equipment, to and from my assigned doors. They won't be delayed waiting on hostlers, and they won't be instructed to do any linehaul yard work. Trust me, their ASSES will be in and out of town pronto! It's the nature of the run, and it keeps your company competitive, and maybe all our ASSES in a decent job. Any grievance you try on a U E driver handling his own equipment will be thrown out. By the way, it is good to be at ABF. I hope YRC can pull it off and stay afloat, but ABF is a much better company to work for. I resigned from YRC (former Yellow Freight employee) after 25 yrs. to replace a guy retiring at ABF.

We the ABF Teamsters have to decide what we want and what ABF can give. Let's not run blindly at this. We need to stand back and look at the entire picture. No we don't trust the TEXASS TURNCOAT! But we can discuss the pro's and con's and come up with a solution. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

We have all had to deal with the changes, most guys didn't pay attention when the offices started moving our work to a lesser work force. How many women are singles moms? Now people are starting to pay attention because there work is being sourced out. Doubt if we can stop it just be thankful if you are still working.

Mexican contractors are now in our country. Contractors are pulling conways and fedex's freight while linehaul runs are gone, and u guys are griping about job classification. If your gonna stay competitive, you might ought to be open for change in order to compete with whats happening in our country or work for pennies like me at conway. Protect what you got brothers to stay competitive! We want what you got!

Our future is looking rather bleak now, isn't it? It used to be the union setting the bar for better wages and working conditions. Now it's the non union companies playing the limbo song and lowering that bar and we will have to match their abilities or die on the vine. I wish I could say better days are coming our way but in reality I think it's better now that it will be for us.

Is that so wrong?

Conway tells us to keep the dream alive. My dream is convert conway to union and be strong with a voice. Abf and YRC needs to step to plate and offer the service that EVERY carrier is doing and get them next day lanes covered by the UE drivers. Line haul guys need to realize this is a requirement to secure everyones future and pension. I dont think this is open for negotiation.

I think part of the problem is that ABF drivers on average are some of the oldest in the industry. Please dont hate me for saying that, I meen that in a good way.For the most part ABF is a great place to work, I have been here for over 18 years and I hope to be here till I can retire. I think it is hard to change someones mind to belive that instead of just driving from point A to B Back to A now you will have to work your trailer at point B before you come back home. Some of our drivers might have a problem with that, not only because they dont want to bu alot of them might not be able to.

We are going to be alright. ABF is profitable and we will be just fine. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

Ya, for now. But ABF has less cash then 3 years ago. Can ABF sustain another recession?

The problem is the international NEVER ORGANIZED and the shame is we must go to the non union level to survive! and HOPEFULLY collect something.
