I'd vote for anybody or thing before Hoffa...

Sandy Pope for President...

I say we vote for Overnite! He's well versed in the inner workings of both the union and the company, which you need to be successful. It can't just be one way, we need our flexibility back. These Non-Union carriers are taking us to the wood shed. Overnite for PREZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What exactly is your agenda B 22? What would make you happy? More Teamsters under contract doesn't seem to be of interest to you. More bargaining power due to our biggest competitor voting for Teamster representation ie. Fed-Ex. doesn't seem to be a priority to you. I just don't understand your angle here. You start a thread on the FDXF forum bashing our contract and advising them to wait for 2013. What is that all about? A few things need to change before our situation at UPSF can dramatically improve. Either our competitions labor costs need to come up, or the freight rates need to come up. More union companies is the answer. Not less. So under the circumstances of over capacity due to jippo haulers cutting costs, at any means, and cutting rates to be competitive, I think we, as UPSF employees, and as Teamsters have a lot to be grateful for, and are much better off then most. TE out...

I don't, for the life of me, understand why the Teamsters are not going after Conway as fast as possible. Those guys are practically begging for representation and it seems like no-one in the union will give them the time of day. I agree that Fed-Ex would be a larger catch and more prestigious,I guess. However Conway is almost as big in the ltl business as Fed-Ex. I know Jimmy made a deal with UPS to go after Fed-Ex after we were organized but Conway would be a much easier fish to catch right now.

...I have no illusion on Jr`s machine...he will probably servive...but he is selling out on so many fronts....unless you are in the top 1/3 as a road driver, imhho ,you better hope straight line becomes a reality....the company is cutting us to the bone....watch the term utility driver to become more prevalent as time goes on....

As for contracts I worked back in the day through many contracts over my 20 plus years in the Teamsters.
Those contracts were always compromises, the rank and file who where LTL, drew up a wish list with the Teamsters rep.'s.
That list was presented to the Teamsters and Companies negotiating team, with the companies involved with the National Master Freight Agreement contracts.
The compromising began, the companies would offer something on the list if the rank and file Teamster members would be willing to give up,some item that was already written in previous contract.
Everything was hashed out, until a proposed contract was ready to be gone over by the union rep.'s,and Teamster members effected.
If it was rejected,it would go back to the bargaining table to carry on the process.
If there was an impass back in the day, there would likely be a vote to strike,to lean on the companies involved to except what the members were willing to sign off on.

So you all can shoot for the moon and ask what you want to see in your next contract, getting it written in stone well that is something ( Skeeters famous saying) Only Time Will Tell.

Did I hear my name? How are you AP?

I God is still blessing me with good health, Skeeter my friend.

Just thought I would post a reality check about the workings of union contracts.
You can dream of getting whatever you'd like in your next contract, however getting it in writing is a whole other issue.
Your first contract was the foundation, your next contract will be a give and take.
The company may be willing to enhance the contract you have in place at this present time, but they will want to see some give backs as well.
If this is not the case I will be very surprised.

I think you are 100% correct. I'm getting weary of the fight through. I need them young bucks to hold me up... I'll fight the fight as long as I am working. Hopefully leave with a contract that's better for the next generation of teamsters...
