This is for both Road and City Drivers.
When do you take breaks and lunches?
I have heard rumors that management is trying to push both road and city drivers without giving them time for breaks.

We have been told there are NO BREAKS!!!,...None, Nota, Zip!!!,..........Any unauthorized break is considered stealing time,....

Lunch is between the fourth and sixth hour,...........

For P&D
30 minute lunch (Mandatory) Entered as "Lunch" in DIAD
Two 15 minute breaks. Enter as "Break" in DIAD

.....Not sure how Linehaul does their lunches and breaks.

I don't know where your at, But if we enter "breaks" in the diad it is considered steeling time and we will be fired,....

I live in a state were 2-10 minute breaks are the state law for a 8 hour shift as well as a 30 minute lunch. We clock out for breaks on the diad, also check out the non-union work rules on upser's, there is a section that deals with 2-15 minute breaks for those employee's.

We get 30 minutes for lunch, can take up to an hour, as long as BOTH parties agree. When I used to run shuttle management tried to force us to take the full hour, but I always said " I don't agree" , and never did on their terms. Why should I be penalized 1/2 hour of pay for there lack of efficiency????
We are also allotted two 15 minute breaks, supposed to be one before and one after lunch.
Ups tried to force all of our city drivers to go between 3-6 hour, but that caused to many missed pickups and missed deliveries that ups stopped that practice. DUMB $&@&@ Now most drivers take there lunch at the end if the day, so we can better serve the costumers, and our wallets ;).

If you look at a city trip card, it shows the federal statute that says lunches must be taken between the fourth and sixth hour, the linehaul manifest says a break must be taken every four hours.
Most states have state laws intact that regulate when breaks must be taken, most are between two and three hours.
These are federal regulations, what gives management the right to ignore these rules?
After all thats what ups is all about....RULES

I'm a P & D driver in Reno.
We get two 15 minute breaks, plus lunch between our 3-6 hours of work.
And enter it into the DIAD as such. Never been a problem.
There was a decision at National Panel (June 9-11, 2010) for Newburgh,NY.
Case NUPSF-10-088 for reference. Talk with your local union about this.

Also putting (2) 15 minute breaks into the next contract would be a good idea.
Check your state labor laws, they allow for breaks.
There was a PCM that said we are to take breaks. I'll find it.

what did you guys do before ups bought u guys

Some not all...probably hung out at a customers stop chatting for awhile, took multiple breaks and lunches....Than Telematics showed up and we suddenly became more efficient.

Honestly who cares about breaks? What do you need a break from, as a driver?

If you have to stop and ****, or get a drink, do it, nobody is stopping you. They cant discipline you for using the restroom until every tractor has its own restroom in it.

Id rather not take any breaks or a lunch all day.

With all the time we spend getting live loaded, live unloaded, waiting for a dock door etc I dont ever feel the need for a break.

It's mindsets like this that have caused these problems for the rest of us!
Diesel Smoke, you for sure are not a Team Player, I'm sure management loves the way you think.

How come dispatchers and managers get to go out and have a cigarette every 45 minutes or so and they are not stealing time. I break when I want!

Linehaul manifest says a driver may take a break every 4 hrs. It does not say must take a break.
