FedEx Freight | Don't know if anyone has posted this?Fred Smith speaks

Absolutely correct. Less people you need, more work from each person you have. Less benefits, taxes, 401k, etc. But more from fedex? ....of course not

Not sure why you guys are so worried about longer trailers.
It's a natural part of the business cycle..new technologies are developed to make businesses more efficient and productive. Just like technology and everything else in other areas have evolved over time.. If twin 33's are the new norm, so be it.

If they can run more freight on twin 33's, why not? Because a few drivers wont have a run. Such is the beauty of the economic system, you can go find employment elsewhere in other fields..

Sometimes the unpleasant realities of life must be said whether you want to hear it or not.

Fedex is in the business to make money, so if they can run more freight with less drivers why wouldn't they? How many people lost their jobs after 9/11 or the recession and either had to readjust or make a career change? Some drivers have this entitlement mentality that you should hold your job/run for life..It is so absurd. The world changes, companies change as well. It's part of life.

You guys wouldn't pay more for gas or cellphone service if you didn't have to. So why should companies bear extra unnecessary costs? you guys are a riot.

Unnecessary costs? Well I tell you what, when the Executive Board stops raking in millions of dollars in compensation including the company reimbursing them for taxes on stock options, and all the tens of millions of dollars spent on FedEx golf FedEx NASCAR FedEx Field and everything else they **** away money on, then I'll say okay maybe I deserve to lose my job so they could save money and it is time for me to look elsewhere. And no, I don't have a sense of entitlement, I have EARNED what I have with this company, as everybody else has earned it too but it is always the drivers and the doc guys who are first in line to suffer and have things taken away

Priceless!!!!!!!

I just opened the link from above and read the article in the Memphis Daily Post. I'm more worried about the fact that Fred Smith talked about the forward and inward facing cameras than the 33 ft pups. If they want to put a forward facing camera on the trucks is one thing but to put one facing me in the cab is another.

This was copied directly from the article in link from the Memphis Daily post.

Smith agreed that there is a shortage of truck drivers, but several new features coming on the market could solve that.

He said that the industry will soon see autopilot trucks similar to features in airplane. FedEx also is working to rapidly adopt collision-avoidance systems in its trucks. He predicts that trucks will have inwardly and outwardly focused cameras to uncover details about accidents and also track to see if the driver is alert and sound an alarm if needed.
