Anybody see a parallel here? There is a metaphorical thing going on and it has to do with a large and very hard to recover loss.

Again, I would say the idiot there was the guy driving the car. Yes, truck driver is an idiot but they guy in the car could not see where he was going at all. At least the truck driver could see ahead.
