I talked to some YRC shuttle drivers from 813 (Tracy, Ca.) last week, and we discussed some issues concerning 813 and 889 (Hayward, Ca.), Largely due to the COO.
Late last August at 813, all CDL qualified on the seniority list either on regular or voluntary layoff were recalled. Nobody came back.
With the closings of terminals in Salinas and Oakland a few years ago, and more recently San Jose and Benicia, Hayward (889) now has to cover the entire SF Bay Area (except show/convention freight) and points South to King City, 133 miles away. The terminal is regularly backed up with freight, and often uses outside cartage to cover the P+D since many "working out of the hall" at Local 70 refuse to work there.
YRC recently created some bids where a shuttle driver would start at 813, deliver inbound to 889, cover a P+D route, then haul outbound back to 813. The Union backs this, and at least two have taken these bids. That concludes my report. Anyone from 813 or 889 please add to this or correct as necessary. Thanks, and wishing you all well.
