Illnois-Trucker dies from injuries in blast

A Chicago man who was critically injured in an explosion last week at a manufacturing plant in Bellwood died Saturday, authorities said.

The man was identified as Noe Leiva, 41, of the 4100 West Fletcher Street, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. Leiva was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at about 6 p.m.

Bellwood fire officials said the explosion occurred after fumes built up in a chemical storage area at Universal Form Clamp, 840 25th Ave.

Leiva, a truck driver who was making a delivery to the plant, suffered burns to more than 90 percent of his body and a worker at the factory suffered burns to more than 50 percent of his body. Two other employees and two firefighters had less serious injuries, officials said.
