Sorry Syscowife, I've had a pretty crazy last couple weeks at work. I go for drug test, physical and road test Monday and orientation starts on the 29th. How long will orientation be? How many days and hours per day, anyone know?
Our orientation is two days of videos, then into a truck. The two days are about 8 hours, then into a truck fo 10-16.
Same thing here, GT... but we only have meetings once a year. "Do more with less, do better than you think you can..." etc.
All we can do is our best. And I challenge them to find anyone that can do better! Good luck!
I agree. I hear all the time how my customerrs love me too, but the only attaboy's we see posted seem to be for those that need to be 'cared for' so they don't get pissed and leave.
I do wish sysco would look at the value of the divers that truly care about their customers!
Finished my first week at Sysco, and so far I really like it! Compared to my last job as far as hours it is just nice to be able to sleep in my own bed every night. I had orientation Monday through Wednesday and then I was on a route yesterday and today. I ended up with a driver that has been with Sysco for over 20 years. We had to cover a route out of a shuttle yard, so we ended up around South Carolina all day. We had 16 stops and 800 cases, we finished the route from the time we got to stop 1 to stop 16 in six hours. Went in at 530 and was off at 5. Today we ran a downtown route that was SWEET, lol. 11 stops about 850 cases and mostly hotels and stuff that we pallet drops. Went in at 430 and was off by 2, we even sat down and ate lunch for about 45 minutes. I told him he should retire and let me have his route! I've heard all the horror stories about Sysco, I even heard some of them from people in management too but I like it and I think it is going to be a really good fit for me! I'm off all weekend, running another downtown route with the same guy again Monday!
Thats great! Take all you can from that 20 yr man, he lasted 20 yrs for a reason! Pay attention, when your on your own it will get tougher, you might not get those sweet routes, also, product recognition is a big thing, once you get that down its a whole lot easier on you, as you will know what product to look for in the pile.
Congratulations CM!
I know it won't be this sweet when I'm on my own GT, lol. I will soak up as much information from him as I can and learn as much as possible while I'm with him. I really like him and hope they keep me with him as long as I'm training. We used the same scanners and Xata at my last job, so I know how to use all that stuff. I mainly just need to learn the product, he was handing me cases out of the freezer Friday and asked if I had the corndogs. I started laughing and said hell they could all be corndogs for all I know, lol. I love how much lighter everything is though, our cases in the freezer at my last job were all 50 lbs. or more! They told me I would be training for 4 weeks but he told me that I wouldn't need anymore than 2 weeks if that, which is good because I'll be ready to make some money!
Thats great that you know the scanner and XATA, heck thats half the battle, if all you gotta do is learn product you got it made, I have delivered for quite a while, but I have learned some pretty cool little tricks, even from guys that haven't been around that long, some of the fellows are pretty creative, always finding ways to make the job easier, and as you well know, the easier you make it the longer you last!
OMG, you can teach an old dog new tricks, lol
Work smarter, not harder ;)
Congrats CM. Probably a dumb question, but do yall work weekends at sysco? 5 days a week mon-fri, or mon-sat with a day off during the week? Just wondering. Thinking about applying at the Houston, Tx location when my lease is almost up, so I can move back down there.
