XPO | con-way closing 40 service centers

to me it seems like a voluntary lay-off..."hey guys you got two weeks to get your stuff and head to the closest terminal...if not oh well you choose not to follow work so you quit." seems to me a way to cut the work force without a lay-off and all the paper work and extra money that comes with it, not to mention how we are looked at up on Wall Street by our investors. The truth is we do have terminals on top of each other and this is probally needed but dont leave your people in the cold like this. By the way I wonder if that re-location package is anything like what our president's and ceo's is like? But that would be too much like socialism taking from the top and giving to the bottom. At NRD we are SUPPOSED to be getting 4 drivers from danville va, but that is a 2 hour ride!!!!! I am anxious to hear how many of them are coming. Best of luck to all of those displaced

Definitely see your point. For me, the relocation package is good enough to cover all my costs associated with the move. The big issue with drivers at my terminal has been the lack of notice. I'm not married, have no kids, don't own a house, and my girlfriend lives 300 miles away in the first place. That being said, two weeks is not enough time for me, having a best case scenario, to really do enough research to feel comfortable about my move. We'll see how it works out..
 
Went thru something very similar a few years back myself....may I suggest a decent motel, or extended stay place (those are quite prevelant out here on the "left coast", not sure about your area).......anyway, it is easier to walk away from something like that if either the move doesn't pan out for you, or, you find the best area for the eventual long-term relocation......even a rented room in some private home, or, check the local college's "room-mate" wanted postings, anything very temporary, until you figure out what to do, for the long haul......best of luck, I know it seems like a steep hill to climb, but all journeys, even the longest, most difficult ones, are accomplished one step at a time......the only way to eat an elephant, is to only take one bite at a time.........Once, some time back, I managed to lose 100 lbs.......someone asked me once, how I managed to lose 100 lbs......I said, I couldn't possably have lost 100lbs, but, what I figured out, was that I COULD lose 1lb......then I just did the same thing, 99 more times.......you will get thru this, and, who know, it just might be fun......(o.k., that is probably a stretch, but anyway, it is do-able)......
 
Did anybody even mention that Conway is paying re-location expenses for employees that want to move to a new terminal. And you get to keep your seniority. Move to the big city.
 
No, that's moose and caribou...saw her on FoxNews last night, learned alot...they come right up to the door...don't even have to get dressed to go hunting..

Relocate me and my family for this place?Man you have got to be kidding!! Im getting canned on Friday and there is no way i would do that for a company that just doesnt care about you.All they care about is keeping theyre 85% operating ratio! They treat you like a 3rd grader and watch like a hawk this place is a nightmare.Im acually happy im finally out of here.Ive been driving for 16 years and most of it LTL and i dont have to put up with all the bullsh*t these white shirts throw at me every night for much longer.I have a driving job all set up set up for next week in a specialized field where i think i wll be much happier! I know its still work but now i dont have to deal with Big brother Conway any longer and watch those stupid vids every Monday telling me how bad of a job im doing and how much money im making the company lose,Best of luck to you guys!! Have fun on the dock!

I don't know you or how long you've been at Conway(you said 16 years in LTL)But, since you have a job lined up, I hope you take advantage of the serverance package that they are offering. Don't blame you for not moving. I probably would not move either. Good luck to you and maybe they can send those Monday videos to your house so you don't miss anything :)
 
Today is the last day.

All the wall art/plaques are already down, some of the desks are dismantled and nobody really cares about production. Boxes are packed and old pictures have been sorted through.

Good luck to all that are seperating and I hope to see those going to other terminals again.

10-4. I think about half of our terminal is off today as well. I heard them talking about having extra drivers come over here to run linehaul tonight. I've only been here a few years, but tonight is it. Must be some mixed emotions for guys who have been here all 23 years the terminal was open.
