I would love to pull a set of these sometime !
As you know we run them out in OK.....Down here in FL, many companies run them on the FL Turnpike from ORL to MIA. ABF runs twin 48's, FEDEX runs either 48's or 53's, Wilson runs twin 48's, Many other food service companies are running them also. I've never seen a BIG set in a accident, the drivers of those units are the smoothest driving I've ever seen.
With trucks that will barely get out of their own way, no thanks.
Especially with a single axel dolly
From what I understand these are for a dedicated account that is extremely light but bulky.
ABF runs a single axle dolly on their Fla sets, everyone else runs tandems, which I think makes them easier to pull(less whipping back and forth)
I remember Avrt having 53's set up to pull double for quite awhile before the OK account came about...When I 1st saw them...I thought OH CRAP, doubles between ORL and MIA.
It looks like a train on the highway to me???
Twins actually pull better than Pups.
Just not on a windy day.
These are some photo's I took Friday morning, heading south on the Fla turnpike at sunrise...please excuse the dirty windshield, I left NW Houston TX Weds night.
When you come up on a set of twin's It looks like they are running on rails, even in a crosswind...the drivers of these units are in my opinion exceptional. I've never in 25 years of running up and down the Fla Turnpike observed one in a accident. Missed a good photo OP of a ABF set and CT TRANSPORT SETS
I work for abf and would love to see a turnpike set if you are able to take a picture of one on your travels. Doubt I will be able to make it to FL soon.
Will do...The ABF set's are pulled by a driver based out of Mia. Twin 48's pulled by a single axle tractor and a single axle dolly. ABF logo on the front of the trailers ONLY.
It's really not that bad doing this
Bucket list, would love to pull them, even triples would be cool.
They have to set the truck up to pull the state check out that for that u just can't any truck
