Driving Record Question

I applied to Walmart with a spotless record for 13+ years a couple of weeks ago. Last week I was cited for following too close in Indianapolis. Am I out of luck?

I had a interview in April, with a transportation manager that sat next to me, and via web cam a safety specialist, and a driver recruiter. In the interview the question of folowing too close was a topic that was discussed. I do not know If that is a reason for Walmart to disqualify you,but I think that it could be... You should fight that ticket in court. I do not know where you are from, check out The Ticket Clinic, or hire a lawyer for certain types of tickets it's worth it etc... reckless driving, excessive speeding, following to close. The problems is that most fortune 500 companys will not hire you. If they hire you and you have a accident, the opposing side lawyer will have a field day

Thanks for the reply. I am fighting it with a lawyer who specializes in CDL law. He seems confident that he can get it reduced to a non-moving violation for a flat fee.

Good luck, I hope that everything works out for you. With even a mediocre lawyer, with your license being clean to this point, a judge should toss the ticket. Imho...

Well, the prosecutor would not drop it to a non-moving violation. The good news is, it is being dropped to a 2 point speeding ticket. That and my previous 13+ years of clean record should not be a problem, I hope. Also, I received a call to interview at the Spring Valley, Il DC. It's a couple of weeks away, so that will give me time to bone up on my pre-trip inspection procedure as outlined by the handbook. Having grandfathered in on my chauffeur's license, I never had to take the driving/pre-trip exam. (Fingers crossed...)

Something that can help you on the pre-trip...Go on google, and put in class 8 truck pre-trip inspection...It will bring you to some youtube videos of truck driving school instructors, doing a complete pre-trip.. Also, prepare for the interview, it is easy to get tripped up by a question if you are not prepared for it, something as simple as, "tell me about yourself", or "why should we hire you"..

I hope you get on, its a great place to work...I left an LTL carrier with 18 years of seniority to come to Walmart, and have no regrets..

Thanks for the tip. I have been looking at some YouTube videos on the subject, but did not think to search Class 8. I will do that.

Well, I past the interview and driving tests. Now it's a waiting game to see if I get a phone call about a starting date...

(The waiting is going to kill me...)

That is a really nice dc...I think you will like driving for Wally, not perfect, but a really good driving job..I hope to retire from this job..

Do you know if the Mt Pleasant Ia. location is a grocery D.C? Thats the only one hiring in my area. Do you know what it's like working out of there and can you transfer to another location if there is an opening?

My understanding is you can't transfer until you have been there a year.

As for the DC, no idea............... I'm in the Wild West. :)

I went back yesterday (Friday) and received the "conditional job offer." (Dependent on DOT/drug screen and criminal background check.) Looks like I'm in.

Thanks. Still waiting on the call with an actual start date. I'm starting to climb the walls...

That can take a while. It was over a month from when I did my physical, until my start date.

Trying to coordinate multiple hires can be a pain. As it was, our class was supposed to be 5, but 1 guy was moving from out of state. So, we did a class of 4, and the out of state guy never started.

Remember, that was just for my DC. They were trying to get it all arranged with the gentleman from out of state, which is what the hold-up was.

Physical was 11/15, start date was 12/17.
