TAMPA - A gasoline tanker truck overturned Sunday morning in New Tampa, spilling 200 gallons of diesel fuel and shutting down traffic at Cross Creek Boulevard and Morris Bridge Road for more than eight hours.

The driver of the truck, David Vega, 43, of Riverview, had minor injuries and one firefighter was overcome with heat exhaustion, said Capt. Bill Wade, of Tampa Fire and Rescue.

Vega told firefighters he was northbound on Morris Bridge Road, turning left onto Cross Creek Boulevard, when the truck rolled on its side at about 8:30 a.m. Vega managed to get out of the cab and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to University Community Hospital.
