FedEx Freight | gps

Hack job installs. Whats with the wire between the seats not plugged into anything? Is that for downloading info or are our installations incomplete?

The one answer that sums up all this chatter about hating the company which in turn makes you hate life.....Just quit. Find something else to do where you feel you can just do what ever you want with your own rules. If you still want to drive....Get your own truck, be your own boss and you have no one to make happy but yourself.

The saying that "The Biggest Thieves Have The Biggest Locks"....can be adapted to anything thing like " Why Worry About GPS and Big Brother If You're Doing What You're Supposed To Be Doing". Ahhh....now you actually HAVE to do it they way the company wants it done. No more playing truck driver for a decent wage. Instead of being a truck driver on TV, you have to be one in real life....The horror!!!!!

You Protest To Much. Take that energy and make the company work for you. The 401K isn't coming back for a long time, Your other little perks are on hold 'till we dig out of this mess. It's not just FedEx against YOU. You may think it is and that's another good reason to quit. Then it's just you against you.

If you get some time, reread your post and all the others where people think they deserve everything but in the same breath say they are not doing a damn thing extra till they get everything. Quite a circle eh?

Some of these posts and threads are created because there is no one who wants to listen to you and there are those who have given up listening to you so you find an out like the board here where you can talk from "Behind The Curtain".

Just get in the game, punch in....do what is expected....and punch out. All safe and sane in between.

There is a way out, Just Quit and you will have a much better quality of life than to come in here and ***** about a GPS. I bet if the company said "Here, Here is a brand new $600 GPS for you to use. Use it anytime you'd like but please make sure it's on while you're on the clock. You'd be on another company's site telling them that "your" company just gave you a GPS unit as a perk. I bet you the guys sitting at home would put a GPS in each and every pocket of their FREE uniform if it meant the could come back to work.

Two words and you'll have the best life you could possible have. "Just Quit".

Let the games begin.

Ah. Instead of trying to make things better, your solution is "just quit".

You tell us to "make the company work for you", but give no direction on how.

You mention the "free" uniforms. You mean the ones I have to spend my money to wash? Can I charge the company for the electricity, soap, water, wear and tear on the machines and my time to clean the uniforms they REQUIRE us to wear? Ain't nothing free about that my friend.

Yeah, yeah, don't like it, quit. Simplistic answer to a complicated issue. I don't think I've ever seen anyone here say they "hate" their job. They hate the stupid policies, the inept managment, lousy communication between our betters and us, more concern over pounds per hour than loading an efficient route.

You being management don't see it the way we do. You have to sell their product to us. Not so much sell as enforce. A spreadsheet of numbers and graphs tell you how well things are going. We all have to deal with the dirty results of your sterile number driven "input".

If they could just quit fixing things that ain't broke, we'd all be much better off.

Thanks trktch. So we (the drivers) will be able to use the GPS?

Not sure about that,All we are told is they want this Project completed within the next 6 months,This is called the Eden Project,it is from i know about switching to paperless logs for the Drivers,Knowing where Their Equipment is and also if one of you have a problem with a Check Engine light coming on,We at the shop will be able to See it on the computer once you call in to see if it is Safe to keep driving to your Destination,Ihave not even seen one of the handhelds yet,They are probably waiting, could be more advanced sytems coming up in those 6 months

I have seen the prototype handheld a while ago. It is basically a hand held pc. I think it runs on windows. It was about the size of a pack of smokes. When linked to the gps it will ariive and depart you automatically based on pre established boundaries designating drop yards, and service centers. When you come to a stop it will also change your duty status.

Blue tooth

I was in the FTW Friday night when a mechanic installed the tracking unit on a trailer back behind the plugin for the pig tail. He then got some sort of hand held, he said to program the device. When he programed the device it also picked up the drivers blue tooth on his phone. According to the mechanic Harrison would be able to track that drivers phone from now on unless he disables the blue tooth option on his phone. So i guess if you don't want big brother tracking your phone, don't have it close by when they program one of these or disable blue tooth and use a wired headset.

Outstanding rebuttal from someone on the thinking side of the fence. I get so tired of the "Just Quit" nonsense from those that don't have the long term vision to make this place better. Short sighted is he who views this as a "Job" rather than a career path and would have nothing to do with the bettering of our workplace for us and those who will come after us.

From what I understand, the GPS units are only going into active Road units, can anyone confirm or deny this, please???

I dont mind or they care if the company needs to know my exact location. I wish I could still use my personal GPS in the truck. My Garmin wont work after having the hardware installed.............. FM traffic is pretty good in Ga. works real good in Al.

i hope the gps system.....isnt made by highway master.....lol....good investments
OH .... that is soooo bad sn00wman .....
I got mine to work ...I could call central .... thats it .....got told not to use it anymore .... cost tooooo much ....:TR10driving03:

Instead of looking after and harassing their drivers. Fedex should invest a little in a gps with some damn directions! Anybody ever thought of that for once!

good point. If your bid is broken you have to go out on the dock to find the shuttle driver who runs out of the center your goin to to get real directions.

Better not be doing it that way anymore, he may not be going the official route. Best get the official directions from dispatch so nig brother don't whack your private parts.
