BELVIDERE, Ill. -- A semi truck driver was killed in a chain-reaction collision involving three semi-tractor trailer trucks early Tuesday on the eastbound Northwest Tollway.
The collision happened at 1:38 a.m. on the Northwest Tollway (Interstate 90) when three trucks traveling east slowed to merge into a single lane because of upcoming construction, according to Piercy.
At mile marker 38.4, about 21?2 miles west of the Route 20 Hampshire-Marengo exit and nearly 10 miles west of Elgin, the rear-most semi rear-ended the truck in the middle, causing the middle truck to slam into the truck in front, Piercy said.
The man who was killed was the driver of the rear-most semi, Piercy said.
