The first crash happened around 11:50 a.m. near the 124 mile mark at the 71st Street exit ramp on I-65 north. A semi-tractor was stopped in the traffic back-up and a second semi smashed into the back of the first semi. Emergency crews had to extricate the driver from the vehicle and he was then taken by helicopter to Methodist Hospital. The other driver was identified as Christopher Wayman, 22, of Pendleton, IN. He was not injured.

The second crash happened around 12:55 p.m. near the 126.4 mile marker on I-65 south as a result of slowed traffic. Approaching stopped traffic, a semi-tractor ran into the back of a passenger car and forced both the tractor and car to rear end another car and then into the back of a second semi. The crash sent five people, including a toddler, to Methodist Hospital. One driver was listed as critical following the crash.
