Yellow | Is YRC a zombie company?

I could read the whole article on my phone. Just tried on the laptop and it is broke down into pages which you can't read entirely without joining something, so I will summarize. Zombie firms are those 10+ years old whose earnings before interest and taxes fails to cover their debt servicing costs. These walking dead firms are kept alive by refinancing or restructuring debt to stave off liquidation. With the coming interest rate hikes an important part of capitalism could be realized "creative destruction" which occurs when poor capital allocators are replaced with better run companies who buy the assets for pennies on the dollar during bankruptcy sales. Bad companies need to fail otherwise they continue to drag the global economy.

I was on the dock this morning sure looked like the walking dead............................................

hRDhwYJ.jpg

Why you want to talk bad about those dock workers Wrench? They're going as fast
as they can without making any mistakes!

Most weren't moving...........................had to instruct that the little red light on the dash and the buzzing sound meant the propane bottle was empty....................................she said that her husband always put gas in her car and doesn't know anything about that...............................

Has any Teamster company survived after a decade of concessions? I have a bad feeling we will be the next CF a few supervisors who came from there said we're going down the same path.

Good question. NOT 1 Teamster Company who was on a wage give back survived. I believe the last 2 were ANR who folded in late 1998 or early 2000. 2008 All Van out of Michigan closed.

Deregulation of the trucking industry in the form of the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 caused increased competition in the Less than a TruckLoad (LTL) industry. Non-union carriers quickly began taking advantage of their lower labor costs to gain market share. Most of the companies above were union carriers who were unable to compete, though a few were non-union carriers. The trend seems destined to continue until the LTL market is entirely composed of low cost non-union carriers.

I saw the same website you did. Very sad all those company's went south. But trucking has always been volatile, from stocks to marketplace. And over the years I think deregulation & competiton had more effect on union company’s closing their doors.

Freightmaster that list is quite the rabbit you pulled out of your hat. It appears you have a warehouse full of information at your finger tips. For the benefit of YRC and UPS Freight, PKG. Could you provide the total hourly compensation of those union companies plus the total hourlycompensation for FEDEX Freight, Ground and Air. I think the results would be enlightening.

It's just a job. The only reason they employ you is because they need you. When the day comes they cease to operate there will be 29000 openings on the the job market. I will get one of those 29000 jobs and probably a raise to boot. There is life after YRC and will keep that in mind during the contract vote. This company needs to learn how to make money other than taking it from it's employees.

I would rather get the new position now. When that eventually hits the fan you’ll have A lot of seniority and no stress of looking for a job competing with 29000 other drivers. Bet people at blockbuster never thought their jobs would disappear. The way these other LTL’s are doing stuff I don’t know if outdated YRC can stay alive. OD has actually yards in places where other LTL’s have dirt lots as their meet point. These were dirt lots for OD turned into paved yards some mini terminals over the last 7 years.

How many Teamster companies that were NOT on a wage giveback have survived to today?

PS - I asked you earlier why you said 401K's were a scam? You never answered me.
In my experience most people are not disciplined enough to save invest on their own I don't know anybody who is blue collar below upper management executive level who is actually able to retire with a 401scam you can't save enough money. It is scam in a way whatever you invest they charge a fee what is it like one percent but think over 30-40yrs how much have they stolen from you. All my parent's friends without pensions live in a little one bedroom apartment going to the food pantry and free Stroger Hospital you can't make it in Chicago on just social security. Everyone forgets how good the benefits used to be my grandfather when he retired from Illinois Bell in 1984 had a pension with cola and company paid health insurance PPO through retirement now it seems like you just work until you die.

The Teamsters Union is no longer interested in LTL trucking, and apparently the Mafia is no longer interested in the Teamsters Union.
Did Eric Holder collude with the "Chicago Outfit" for $300K?

https://canadafreepress.com/article/did-eric-holder-collude-with-the-chicago-outfit-for-300k

The Casino was a classic episode of "Chicago stories"

The fellas from Rosemont had Blago with a pen in hand ready to sign anything.Feeling confident they got sloppy and listed names on the investors papers that were blatant..sisters with the same last name etc.

This being Chicago and the Italians about to score, guess who showed up ? If you guessed the Irish you win ! They wanted their piece that they felt entitled to and the Paisoni sat down with them but no agreement could be reached due to the famous tempers of both sides starting a fuch you contest early in the negotiation.

The biggest Irish boss had a relative who was the A.G. and he took her leash off.

The investors list was made real public and the gaming board had to react.

All those involved are well known in Chicago politics/OC, some are dead and some are spoken about on this blog today.(I have Italian/Irish blood and genetically can't recall names.)

Nobody went to jail or got killed but there are hard feelings to this day. This was another example of Blago going off the reservation in the Irish eyes and was used as another nail in the coffin when the "G" was asked for a favor.

The Old man had plans to turn Rosemont into a mini Las Vegas and many believe he would have, ever wonder why there are a million hotel rooms out there? Both sides would have made money by the truckload but greed and Chicago's most famous ethnic rivalry killed the goose before the first egg was laid.

You are comparing to a time when healthcare was affordable and life expectancy was low. I plan for a 30 year retirement.

That is just under one third of my lifetime.

Process that.

When I became a Teamster, average life expectancy in retirement was 13 checks.

Process that.

I have only been seriously putting money in my 401k for 21 years. Between my better half and I, we will have saved enough to more than double our projected pension benefit.

Process that.

It’s not a scam if one understands the game and becomes aware of basic investment strategies.

‘Knowledge is Power.’

It’s there every time you read one of my posts.
