I heard today that one train bridge over the Mississippi that carries 70-80 trains per day is closed indefinitely due to flooding. The news also stated that many more up and down the river are about to be closed.
It seems there may be a sudden shift from trains to trucks by shippers not wanting to tie up their freight on a train. Could be good for trucking but on the other hand, massive flooding has ruined corn crops which will further add to the cost of anything that uses corn.
The news stated that "collectively this is as bad or worse than Katrina's devastation was". "Major economic blow to our economy" were the words described.
