We're hiring new drivers system wide. Are we losing quite a few to retirement, or something major in the works for our company? Any thoughts?
I know at GRL dispatch said he needed 3 more line drivers because of freight volume
You must be extremely careful with expansion plans. The operation ratio can go into a rapid decline if it's not done correctly and Rick knows this. I just think he's showing restraint until the right opportunity comes along. The freight volume must be there to justify the associated cost.I agree I think Saia is a real good company and is surprised they don't expand up 2 the dreaded northeast lol
Good for Saia , you are growing !We're getting or butts handed to us at cmb...we have put on 4 guys in the last 90 days
Have a friend that interviewed yesterday at the Saia terminal in Greenvile SC. He is interviewing for P&D position. TM told him they just hired 3 other drivers that start this week to try to bring the work week down from over 60 hours avg a week currently. Also said the TM was concerned he would be able to learn the handheld as a couple of new drivers are having trouble learning how to operate it. How hard can it be? He was very impressed with the company and TM and hopes they call him to offer a job. He liked the idea of after 10 years of service they provide no cost to employee health care. Does Saia pay overtime (time and a half) after a certain amount of hours?
They won't even call me back! And I have a referral and contacted a recruiter! HahaI know at GRL dispatch said he needed 3 more line drivers because of freight volume
I'm 28 and by far the youngest at Central Freight Lines haha. Wish Saia would call me back.I think it's a matter of freight volumes being alot higher than normal and people getting ready to retire.
I know at my terminal I am the youngest linehaul driver, and I'm 41. I often wondered why younger drivers don't hire on to companies such as ours. I know I wish I would of done it earlier in my career. There was a lot of wasted years sleeping in crappy truckstops.
Good advice hand.don't give up, renew your app every 6 months
