According to Estes we are the number 2 l.t.l carrier now. Maybe just maybe if we are climbing the ladder and doing really good just perhaps our insurance could get a little better for a company this size. Also maybe another day or two for personal days instead of only 3 a year. I know wishful thinking, but without the workers Estes would not be where they are. Keep your plastic Estes cups and knock off chapstick and belt buckles and put some real money back to the workers. Office workers, dock workers, drivers and mechanics as well as anyone in between.

Im sorry I hate to intrude on your Estes forum and I hope this doesn’t steer anyone the wrong way. But I work for ABF and the reason they aren’t number one is because of things like insurance lol. So I don’t see it happening for you guys at Estes. Do you think OD would bring in as much profit as they do if they paid overtime after 8 and had top of the line health benefits…. Doubt it.

One of the drivers wouldn't accept a hat and demanded 5 dollars and the supervisor said I also have too many hats
I give them to my dad and my 6 year old nephew. My dad uses them while he's doing yard work in the summer. When they get gross and dirty he tosses them and grabs another out of the box. The cold weather stuff along with my uniform allowance gets donated to the homeless every year.

Estes is not number 2. I believe Estes is number 4 .

With Yellow removed they would move to number 13 on the top 100, they would be 4 on the top LTL Carriers

They are the largest privately owned carrier in North America. To me, that’s something. No stockholders to appease, they could be best carrier to work for as well. JMO

How much is Union dues? No we dont get paid over time after 8 and we do actually have to work at times hooking our sets and fueling but with the picture being painted before us Estes,O.D, X.P.O ,South Eastern Freight, R&L Carriers, Fed Ex, A.A.A. Cooper, Saia and more will probably still be around in 10 years as the Union slowly suffocates their freight companies. Im not against the union but they are hanging on by a thread. Id be pretty upset right now if i had been a yellow employee and now im out of a job when so many were expressing that they were willing to work with yellow but the union said they were bluffing and and called their bluff. Yellow wasnt bluffing they were broke. Yellow should have went out many moons ago with their mismanagement. A.B.F is strong i guess but for how long?

Union dues comes out to 78 dollars a month I believe that’s a great deal for what we get in return. Let me start by agreeing with you about union freight companies. It’s definitely a dying breed. But I do disagree with your comment about the union hanging on by a thread because overall it isn’t. Now i say this because teamster companies are everywhere and are still organizing new companies to this day I mean 10 roads one of the biggest mail contracted companies just organized a few terminals. I live on the west coast and every other truck I see on the road are teamsters almost every grocery truck, the biggest food service companies, cvs, port, fuel, bus drivers, cement, trash trucks and ups and that’s just naming a few Im not talking about weed dispensaries, Starbucks, Amazon, airlines, casinos, Hollywood teamsters, DHL, things like that and trust me there is so many more. Now yes ltl Freight unions companies are pretty much all gone and yes ABF may be out of business in five years or may last another 100 years but the reason why I mentioned the other types of teamsters companies is because if Abf went under tomorrow my options are very large in terms of choices of companies to go work for to continue my pension contributions into the fund I am in. The fund I am in freight pension contributions only equates to 2 percent of the whole fund. 78 dollars a month for union dues gets me Free top of the line health insurance for me my wife and two children until they are 21 I believe is the current age for them. I might be off by a year or so on that. But when I say top of the line please just trust me on how great the coverage is and how much more non union drivers have to pay for surgeries and things like that. Now also included in that 78 dollars a month is pension contributions that will give me as of right now about 200 dollars a month for each year served. So if I work 25 years I’m lookin at minimum 5000 a month the rest of my life but it is going up actually. Now I also get overtime after 8 hours and my employer must adhere by rules in a contract negotiated by the teamsters on my behalf. And we have the option of filing a grievance or going to a hearing to be able to get paid or jobs back for things that shouldnt have happened and what not. There is a lot more to list about the good things that come with being in a union.

Now another thing I must say is a lot of guys who talk bad about union companies haven’t even worked union. Now I’m not special or anything but my view on the whole union vs non union thing may hold a little merit due to the fact that i worked for the biggest non union ltl carrier for about 5 years and I definitely would prefer and recommend working union.

Here’s a little math for fun on terms of factual things. This math is in regards to compensation. Yes yes yes I agree ABFs teamsters hourly wage is low (personally I am totally fine with it because I know the true total compensation package we get and I have no complaints of course more would be better) and non union hourly wage is better yes it is I agree. But here we go with some number here and this is based off an actual legitimate conversation I had with an Old Dominion driver. He stated he pays 128 a week for his families insurance and he contributes 150 a week into 401k. Ok so if we add that up that comes out to 278 dollars. Now based on a 40 hour work week if he is dishing out 278 a week for insurance and retirement he is essentially losing $6.95 an hour of his hourly rate or practically working one day of work for free. Now yes we can factor in him making more off a 50 hour work week but if I do 50 hours as well 10 of those hours are at the overtime rate of time and a half. So essentially I am taking home more money than him or making the same but I get a pension and save much more on medical bills than he would

Now please let me show you non union drivers what OVERTIME gets you as a city driver. Keep in mind the 1500 dollar gross week I took a CC day so I worked four days. I attached time clock that shows no work available because i voluntarily took a cc day. And of course I’m a Teamster so Fridays they can get 8 hours out of me max. Lol. Oh ya keep in mind we get double time after 11 hours on the west coast so that helps.
