I worked for ABF as a road driver and currently for FedEx and I’ll tell you that starting out for ABF you’ll definitely be extra board and sleeping out 3-4 nights a week plus working Saturday’s, Sunday’s whatever day they give you lol until you can grab a bid run. As for FedEx no weekends unless you sign up for extra work and you will be home every night. You will just do meets or hub. The only difference is that for ABF you cannot work the dock because of the union and for FedEx if you go into a hub there will be a chance of dock work but at least your getting paid hourly for it. ABF does pay for hook and drop, 15 min per hook or drop but if you go into a major terminal like Carlisle, Winston or ATL you won’t see a penny. FedEx you make and break your set at whatever terminal you go to it doesn’t matter. FedEx is at .68 per mile and I believe ABF is only at .63 may have gone up from last contract but can’t see them being over .64
