Guys, we're asking your opinion about something again. Do you think we should leave rumors that are posted on this forum for all to see? We're talking about the same ones we've all heard over and over. They change a little bit but over all they're the same old rumors. If you have information about something and need to post it thats different. As long as you can back up what you say with facts then we want to know. Many of you have said either in a thread or by PM that you don't want unfounded rumors about Holland posted. Many of these rumor posts are started by people just trying to get people worried, upset, irritated or to try to make customers go else where for their needs. Some people may think that nobody but employee's of freight companies read our posts, but people from other businesses do read about our industry on Truckingboards.

What do you think about this issue?

Good point Loon, there are several guys around my area that tell our customers, all the time, that they heard this or that just to try and steal our freight. When one of us ask these guys where they heard this nonsense they always claim it was someone from another company or in a meeting with their management and they were just repeating what they were told, an unfounded rumor.

got you covered

I believe loose lips sink ships and that Star Wars (not the Cult space movie) was created (ingeniously by the way) by the Reagan administration to bring the Soviet Union to it's knees. (do the research). The Soviet Union spent all their money on defending against something that did not exist (Reagan/Gorby). In any case, I agree that unsubstantiated rumors should not be posted. Oh, one more example. Remember the freight company formerly known as Overnight? Well, they used to go to the union customers when there was a contract negotiation going on and "steal freight" by scaring the customer about whether the union companies were going to deliver as promised.:smilie_132:

rumors = gossip

Not gonna vote in your Holland forum but will throw my two cents in:

Rumors kill companies!

Rumors not only kill companies, they kill unions, and reputations are sometimes ruined by them as they (rumors) grow and feed upon themselves as they are repeated and embellished.
And yes, Benny Hill is correct again, most of these vicious rumors are started by people with an axe to grind or a self serving agenda!

Everything is a Rumor until it happens. I think we are all intelligent enough to decide what is fact and rumor. Why should one man decide what is truth? This is still America?

This all begs the question, what is proof? What is a reliable source.
Is it an actual copy of a company memo scanned in and posted online here or somewhere else? Does it need to be published, reported by Newspaper, tv, radio, major website.
Is hearing it from the TM any better than reading it from some bloggers website? Nowadays is hearing it from a CEO any better than reading it on a bathroom wall?

I think the answer to all of these is, like always, It depends. I got really tired of all the "You guys are gonna close by X" posts that we used to see, they made my stomach hurt. And some of that can be really harmful. But I kinda gotta agree with Jarhead here and say that we might go a little overboard if we just delete anything that might be a rumor. Heck do we have iron clad proof of anything we post on here? We generally judge from the poster and what their reputation is and how they present themselves. Also we take into account how outrageous the post is and whether they back up their statements with anything believable. I think a lot of times just having a reply saying "this is BS and we heard that same ting last year from so and so" is enough.

Excellent and true.

You are 100 percent correct, as I have seen this time and time again, but it was"teamsters" starting rumours about other teamsters sometimes with no basis to the allagations made !

Very well written. I agree.

They should be looked at and judged upon as is. But who will be the judge? Benny is to eager to delete things so fast anymore, maybe a power trip as a mod I do not know. I like Benny and all but it seems to me as an outsider that Benny is causing more of a rutcus than others.
I did not vote as I do not work for USF but thought I would say it as I see it.

No hard feelings Benny, your seeming to be the pot stirrer more around here, SORRY.

I would rather see USF be back the way they were and put YRC out of work.

I agree 100%! Heck, Isn't the motto of TB "when you want to know whats going on"? I have seen some warnings lately that seem a bit over the top. These ARE forums for discussions after all & it seems like sometimes BH takes too much of a hard line & can seem nit-picky at times. Now, I like BH & I know he is doing what he thinks is best, but we are all adults here (ok, most of us anyway). The only exception I can see would be for the rumors of a company closing the doors.

I spend a lot of time trying to work things out, behind the scenes, that most of you have no knowledge of, only the people that are involved know. If the rest of you feel the same way, that the last few guys do, let me know. I can start just enforcing the rules no questions asked. If you break the rules you get charged for it. I personally feel that for the most part we have a great bunch of guys. There are a few that like to do as they want to do, no matter what it is. Speak up guys, tell me what the rest of you think, I want to hear it. Many of you guys have said that you wanted these unfounded rumors stopped, thats what I've been doing. The majority of you so far have voted to either delete or continue to allow me to judge for you as your Mod. Thats what this thread is for, let me know what you want. As members of TB, anybody can post in most forums, but guys that don't like something about the way I do things here and don't work for Holland or aren't even Union members, in my opinion, should keep their opinions to themselves. Speak up men, tell me what you think. I don't disrespect any of you in public so I would appreciate the same in return. By all means tell me the truth, in your opinions.

Ahh the rumor mill

Well i guess is should first say i generally agree with BH on the job he does. As the rumor mill goes, this forum is really an extension od the workplace it seems at times. As a 21 year Teamster, i hear so many of these different "rumors" on the street as you interact with customers, and other LTL companies. Maybe it's the old addage, " better the devil you know than the devil you don't ". I think most of us are smart enough to weed through the obvious TDU generated propaganda, the dart on the calendar that tells what date my unemployment checks are going to start. If i had based my lfe on that i never would have got married (that 1 didn't work anyway), had kids, bought a house, taken vacations, and lived my life on my rules.

Benny, keep up the good work. We are all collectively smart of enough in our own way to weed through the crap, take some and leave some. I know we get customers, management, and wannabe card holders weighing in here, and adding to the attempt at times to bringing down our reputation, but that's why it is a message board. We have a slew of guys who are quick enough to rebut the obvious crap. and praise the positive.

Okay i'm off my soapbox, i for one appreciate the fact that i have a place where i can speak my mind and let others take it as want. Boomer:smilie_132:

BH, take it easy. Again, you come out right away with a warning. Do you see cops writing tickets for driving 1 mph over, or jaywalking, or virtually any other petty thing? No, they get the worst offenders, not all of the offenders. We want you to use your judgement on things, but not dictate what people can or cannot say. Nobody follows every letter of the law, NOBODY. I want you to be a mod, not a vigilante. I think you do a very good job overall, but could ease up a little. Oh, and about the poll, the reason I did not vote is because it leaves it up to you and you alone as to the determination if something is unfounded? As I believe BP pointed out in another post, what is proof, or a reliable source? It is subjective. That is my .02

BAN BENNY, BAN BENNY, BAN BENNY!!!!!!:jiggy::jiggy: Just kiddin Good Buddy. Delete the blatant rumor posts is what I say!!!:1036316054: I'll help you expose them if you want! P.s. (I'm short on casino cash again):butt kiss:

BH, take it easy. Again, you come out right away with a warning.

What warning? Don't I have the same right as you or anybody else to debate or post as I see fit, within the rules? I didn't say anything about you or anybody else by name. Are you feeling like I'm picking on you, how? I simply stated my opinion as I see it. I don't know how thats a warning? Wow, you must be very thin skinned. You have told us all about the way things are, in your opinion, I merely stated a post in this thread, no more and no less, about the way I see things and asked others how they see it. I guess you think I'm going to read your posts and not reply, wrong. Being as though the majority wants things one way and a small minority wants things a different way, I guess you feel that by trying to make me look bad it will make you look better, it doesn't. Just keep to the thread and let me post as others do, my opinion. Oh and this isn't a warning either, I'm just stating my opinion again. Nothing personal but, are you in management too? Not me somebody else, they know who they are.
