You just knew that one of these computer driven vehicles was going to go haywire and kill somebody some day: Didn't you?. Well now it's happened and a reality. Now project out into the future w/ computer driven tractor trailers going haywire and causing a massive and deadly interstate pileup. It's surely an accident just waiting to happen.Woman struck and killed by self-driving Uber vehicle http://www.lex18.com/story/37757580/woman-struck-and-killed-by-self-driving-uber-vehicle
The plantiffs attorneys will have a field day...ain't never gonna happen,,,a more important reality is for trucking companies to import drivers from Central and South America....si habla espano? You just knew that one of these computer driven vehicles was going to go haywire and kill somebody some day: Didn't you?. Crashes will happen. Deaths will happen. The tech will continue to improve.
Self driving vehicles and trucks will be, if they aren't already, safer than human driven vehicles.
It's the future.
As if drivers aren't complacent enough already, put them in a self-driving vehicle and look what happens.Notice how the driver was looking at what I assume is a cell phone the whole time?
Um, you might want to recheck your source or at least, your commas. 130 million miles is nearly 1 and 1/2 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun. How long have Tesla's been around? Let's be real generous and say 50yrs. For this Tesla testing to have occurred, one Tesla autonomous vehicle would have to have been driven continuosly at an average speed a little north of 296 MPH. Someone check my math. 50x365=18,250. 18250x24=438,000 130,000,000/438,000=296.8That Tesla crash was then first death in autonomous cars. They had driven 130,000,000 miles at that point according to the source I found. This is the second fatality. I did not find a similar stat saying how many miles autonomous cars have driven since the Tesla.
You may be right that they aren't safer yet, but they will be and it will be soon.
At the rate that Tesla is burning cash, they won't neen any lawsuits to go bankrupt. The car that was supposed to save them, the model 3, is way behind their production goals, which is probably a blessing in disguise since they lose money on them. Also they just barely stsrted testing the semi trucks. The semi which needs to have a huge amount of batteries costs the same as their SUV? But Musk will announce some new product to distract his investors before the semi is launched anyways. Will a Tesla car hit my truck at 40 mph if I am turning across the road anywhere other than a crosswalk? Bigger question, will manslaughter lawsuits bankrupt Tesla before they get the tech “right”?
