The benefit:
"Full-time employees are eligible on the first of the month following the completion of 180 days of continuous full-time employment. "The Short-term Disability (STD) program, administered by Aetna, provides you with income protection during a temporary, non-occupational illness or injury for up to 26 weeks. You are automatically enrolled in STD coverage once you meet the eligibility requirements. ― at no cost to you.
You may [be] eligible for Short-term Disability (STD) benefits if you are injured or ill and cannot work for more than seven consecutive calendar days.
Benefits
If you are an hourly employee, you may receive 60% of your base pay for up to 26 weeks. If you are a salaried employee, you may receive one week of base pay at 100% for each year of service you have completed with a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 13 weeks, and 60% of your base pay for the remainder of the time, up to 26 weeks total of your short-term disability.
The STD plan also provides benefits during maternity leave. The length of STD benefits depends on the type of delivery and the guidelines followed by the claims administrator (Aetna).
Applying for Disability Benefits
Contact Aetna to file your disability claim as soon as you know you will be unable to work for longer than seven days. You must submit your claim within 31 days of the disability start date."
