This is from Atlas Shrugged. Think about it.....

"Money rests on the axiom that every man is the owner of his mind and his effort. Money allows no power to prescribe the value of your effort except the voluntary choice of the man who is willing to trade you his effort in return. Money permits you to obtain for your goods and your labor that which they are worth to the men who buy them, but no more. Money permits no deals except those to mutual benefit by the unforced judgment of the traders."

Yes, I actually think about these things.

Living by the rambling writings of a heroin addict is no way to go through life. Her writings are an art piece. That's it, nothing more, nothing less. You wouldn't pattern your life based on a painting by Andy Warhol would you?

So art cannot be thought provoking? I said "think about it".... Not live and die by it. If you read it and it means nothing to you, that's acceptable also.

Get your facts straight larmer and quit stating facts made up in your mind. Ayn Rand was addicted to nicotine and she used amphetamines for a number of years which were at first prescribed. Hell, my mother who did not drink, smoke or swear was prescribed amphetamines in the early 1960's. Calling her writings an "art piece" is pure ignorance on your part. You have obviously never read any of the books she wrote.

Healthy thinking is a habit, just like neurotic thinking is a habit.....I try not to judge others because it's not for me to judge...My job is tough enough with what's in my own backyard...And BTW stay through the winter and then decide. Now is not a good time to leave.

No sorry, Ayn Rand was a heroin addict. Besides you said she was addicted to amphetamines? You're making my case for me. Either way she was an addict, clear enough!

Besides Libertarianism can not exist without a host economic system. Another words it is a parasite that leaches off of social contract theory and altruistic societies. Tom Hanks played the intimate Libertarian in "Castaway." While on the island Hanks "owned his own labor" and was able to exist in nature from what he could scavenge for survival.

Libertarianism's only goal is to socialize risk while privatizing profit. You and I (Community) must bear the cost of infrastructure so Libertarianism can transport his goods and services to market for free. When asked to support the cost of community, Libertarianism screams blood murder about community confiscating "his labor" against his will.

It is a bankrupt philosophy and will peter out once hemp is legal everywhere and the kids have something else to occupy their time.

Deep thoughts...was that copied from wikipedia? You make the false assumption that being a libertarian is an absolute with no shades of gray. It's one thing for a group of people to decide to build a road but quite different when the government demands the land and money under penalty of imprisonment. I thought you left Vitran, why are you compelled to continue posting here? Just curious

People are Libertarian when it involves their money, but they don't want to privatize the cost of community. Just look to the poor state of our infrastructure.

BTW how dare you insult me with wickapedia. You see, this is my point, we don't think for ourselves anymore. When I was in school the teachers taught us to think for ourselves, but no longer.

Now we allow others to spoon feed us what we should think and feel. So when someone actually thinks for themselves it seems weird somehow.

1. I'm not really a fan of Ayn Rand but you are the one who decide to comment on the post.
2. It's WIKIPEDIA, perhaps that government run school didn't do such a good job after all.
3. If schools aren't teaching people to think for themselves then isn't that an argument for competition?
4. The state of our infrastructure has more to do with corruption and misappropriation than a lack of will. Politicians (of both parties) are constantly raiding funds that are set aside for specific projects. Pick up a newspaper, it's hard to go a week without a story of someone stealing money, from a city clerk, to a school principal, or even a football coach stealing equipment and selling it on Ebay.
5. Our education costs are some of the highest in the world and yet our test scores are pathetic, how much more money should I throw at a broken system?
6. If people don't want to pay for the cost of community then explain the desire for school vouchers? People who have an opportunity to get a chunk of their tax money back are more than willing to pay the extra cash to send their children to private or magnet schools, see Washington D.C.
7. In 2000 under Bill Clinton federal spending was roughly $1.8 trillion dollars. Was this country in utter chaos? Were people starving in the streets? Eating cat food and walking around with nothing but rags for shoes? I don't think so.
In 2012 federal spending was slightly over $3.5 trillion dollars. Does every city have new roads? Brand new shiny schools? Has poverty and hunger ended? NO

I'm not sure who you think is spoon feeding me thoughts, but I will make a statement that you're not likely to hear anywhere so consider it my original thought.

There is a "Red Line"...when the government takes more than 50% of what I earn everyday. When you add up all taxes and fees we are rapidly approaching that number. At that point I am no longer a free man, the only solution......Revolution.

Excellent post biglarry, larmer could not be more wrong and yes, he got what he wrote off of Wiki. larmer is a socialist it appears, guessing he is in love with our current president.

Wow, that was the finest post I have ever read on TB and I could not agree more with everything you said. I would be happy to be your Vice President biglarry28.

Yes post from Lamar and BigLar have good points but they really belong on the political forum.... I don't play on that forum....because of one reason....Did you ever notice how difficult it is to argue with someone who is obsessed with being right?

There's no socialism, just corporatism and until everyday Americans can understand that poor people aren't the cause of their plight then this country is never going to change. This guy say the government takes 50% of what he makes as a middle class man (I'm only assuming) but you know how much they take from mulibillion dollar corporations? Nothing except cut deals to profit and fill their own pockets. And you know what this in turn causes? A corrupt capitalistic system. that's what will force more people into low class as it destroys the middle class. 20% of the country's entire net worth gets gambled away by the financial industry and not one peep from an average American, even though it caused a disrupt in our economy with millions of everyday Americans out of jobs and out on the street.

And Ayn Rand was an addict who died using the same system she wrote against.

I thought we were going to let this thread die? Guess not. Again not a fan of Ayn Rand, honestly I don't understand the obsession. Socialism is real, in fact tens of millions of people live under it in Europe and Canada. Socialism is simply one type of government, some countries it works OK and in some its a complete disaster. It really depends on the integrity of the people running the government and wether that country is being overwhelmed with people accessing the system.
If you think corporations paying no taxes is wrong then we are on the same page, lets scrap the income tax system and replace it with something better. Tell me the last time you heard a politician talk about renegotiating NAFTA? More than 80% of American were against the TARP bailout for the mega banks but people from both parties ignored us and passed it anyway. Their punishment for this? Almost all were re-elected. As long as we keep voting for Dem. or Rep. exclusively the beatings will continue.

Its been said a thousand times.....You can sit around and shout at the rain forever more.....But nothing will change...I'm so far right at this point in American politics that I can't even comment on it...I refuse to comment on it. I'm totally beat down with the system as the way it sits today.....But we still live in the greatest place on earth....The United States of America.

I don't get here much but I will say that some rambling thoughts are concentric circles one inside the other not intersecting but having an untouching meaning that keeps you lost in thought as to where things may lead. The Axiom.....Every man is the owner of himself....If he accepts the fact that his work effort and ethic are his to do with as he chooses. Money is only the outcome of his endevour but only he....the worker truly appreciates the fact that he sets a higher standard for himself than anyone else evercould. At the end of the day....it really doesn't matter to anyone but me if I am happy or not. Either I work hard for my money.....or not......each day I am the one that chooses how I wish to perform my duties. I find at the end of different days that each one is satisfying in its own way......getting away from the philosophy I will say this....Central Trans does have a reputation.....how you view it and how you approach it will determine if you will stay....or not....good luck.
