SAIA | System Driver

Maybe this matters in your decision making, maybe not...

Saia is a publicly traded company, and Estes is a private company. Probably a lot more transparency with the numbers and reporting on the side of Saia, but also more accountability to investors as well. If I was choosing between the two, I would go Estes. There is BS at both places, but probably more palatable than at Saia
Do they coach guys or do they just write you up? I don’t understand why they would be paying these big sign on bonuses to look for reasons to fire A driver. Has there been a lot fired over them?

They do some coaching, but from what I gather, the “coach” has no real experience driving and is therefore IMO unqualified. Just someone that rides a desk needing to justify their job. I’m guessing they are targeting the older drivers, the ones more set In their ways and maybe uncoachable. Maybe coincidence that those same targets are also the ones with free health insurance

SAIA gives drivers plenty of opportunity to change bad driving behavior before they are terminated. It makes no sense to terminate drivers with the driver shortage we have today especially when they are giving big signing bonuses. As far as the senior drivers being targeted because of the free healthcare they receive is totally ridiculous. Also most of our safety guys in the South come out of driving and have plenty of driving experience. I can only speak about the South. If drivers are uncoachable and are so arrogant that they think they know everything then it’s probably best they get out of trucking. A driver that thinks he’s perfect is just an accident waiting to happen.

"You tell her Train, it doesn't take a lot of experience to coach blowing stop signs.
I think I'll put you on ignore, so I don't have to read your reply!"

"BTW, you knew it was about time for me to get on your case."

I get one rolling stop and I won’t ever hear the end of it. They got me and I learned. End of story. Only a fool doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

How is your guys health insurance at Saia? Can anyone tell me deductibles and weekly cost for Employee and spouse? Thanks

UnitedHealthCares premium plan. $12.weekly for single. $37.50 weekly for family. $1500 max out of pocket. $25. office visits... $35. for specialist office visits. I will say if your wife can get healthcare through her employer she can’t be added to SAIA’s plan. If she’s a stay at home mom or simply doesn’t work you can add her. Otherwise no. Prescriptions $15 for generic or $30. for non-generic.

Wow! That really sounds good! $1,500 max out of pocket is unbelievable! What I have now is $13,500 family out of pocket max! And it cost me about $80.00 a week. You guys have really good insurance compared to a lot of places
