Taking someones independent contractor spot

I ran into someone who is selling there positions in freight Carriers companies.
He suggests to take over his spot or contract with freight carriers he signed up, and assume these spots as my own.
I would then run under my own name.
He will get me into these companies.
Is this a good idea? Or how does this work? And is this legit? Any feedback appreciated.
