I drove a new Fliner the other night, equipped with all the new safety features. I went to Wytheville Va, not many hard pulls but not level by any means, 20,000lbs up and 28,000 lbs back. Tanks were full when I left and I filled when I returned, 398 miles on 50 gallons of fuel= 7.96 mpg. My point is with the new E log requirement what harm would it be to instead of losing some high paying runs to set the trucks at 63 pedal and 70mph on cruise? MPG is higher than ever now, the trucks are safer than ever now with lane departure warnings to keep us alert and adaptive cruise to keep us from running to close to the one in front of us, and cameras to protect us. The poor pulling power of the Fliners vs. the Volvo's would be compensated by the extra MPH where lost ground could be made up on the open road at 70 mph.

Personally, I like the cameras, but the lane departure warnings and the adaptive cruise offend me. I'll keep driving the volvos until there is none left to drive. The 7.96 mpg does sound good. My Volvo stays around 7.0 every night.

I was told to expect to see new Volvo day cabs arriving soon. I know a driver that might still be here if he had lane departure and adaptive cruise on his truck, and he was an over 30 year man. I have chosen to embrace the future, FedEx has had it for years, Sefl has it and Estes has it, so we aren't alone.

We(Estes) don't have lane departure warnings, but we do have adaptive cruise control. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't fault all the time. It usually does it when you're passing a truck or if it sees a stationary overpass .

Averitt had the VORAD systems several years ago. That was about as useless as a VP of operations.

I'm waiting for that Elog mandate to go down in flames in congress. There are far too many flaws with it.
