State law enforcement agencies are taking part in a multiple day traffic crackdown designed to reduce crashes involving commercial motor vehicles.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Operation SafeDRIVE (Distracted Reckless Impaired Visibility Enforcement) is taking place February 28 – March 2, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police.
States participating in Operation SafeDRIVE include Kentucky, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
During Operation SafeDRIVE, officers will crack down on dangerous interstate driving behaviors such as aggressive driving, speeding, tailgating, failing to wear a seat belt, distracted driving, and driving under the influence.
Additionally, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement will “open scale facilities, ensuring commercial drivers follow safety regulations, including hours of service compliance, commercial driver license compliance, medical certification, and commercial motor vehicle credentialing.”
“We want Kentucky roadways to be safe for all drivers, and Operation SafeDRIVE is another way for us to ensure motorists are following the rules of the road,” says KSP Director for the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Major Day. “By working together, we can make sure everyone makes it to their destinations.”
