I was wondering at your terminal when the velocity drivers unload there freight do they bay it behind the door they backed into or are they allowed to load the velocity freight to any door in your barn ?

At Indy we send 3-5 drivers a night to Cincinn. I have been one of them.

We go to Cincinn and are assigned a door to back into and drop. We give our bills to the foreman-- that load is already assinged to a CTI dockworker. We then report to the dock foreman, who assigns us to whatever load is there. We break it as every driver there does-- no one knows who is a regular dockworker there and who is a UE. Break like a normal dockworker, working normal frieght. From what I've been told-- there are stacks of grievances piled FEET high against this-- but that's how it goes anyway......
Eventually, normally, after about 5 hours of working the dock (in effect, supplimenting CTI dockworkers)-- the foreman tells us it's time to leave, and we are instructed to hook a load that might have been there for hours.......

It's not what the contract says-- but then, neither is our running of Coldwater Velocity from IND to CLD via Road Drivers (contract says ex-PSE becomes UE and run by Local Cartage as of 4/1/08)......Yellow does what Yellow wants; our Union goes along most of the time......

Our guys go from GAR to SVT, back in, unload theie freight, and most times, they end up working SVT freight to get them caught up before they are dispatched home. In essence, they are being used as casual or extra.

Adding to Jimmy G, Cinncy has 2 docks, we don't work the city dock and during the time we are there the corridor freight is moved to the city dock. Most freight going through cincy is "velocity" freight, meaning from cincy break to other velocity breaks, mbk, nsh, hsb, svt, nsh, any others I left out. As he said, cti workers "take" "our work" and then we "take their work." What good would it do for me to dock a trailer load of freight? How long could the higher paying, benefit rich, union security company afford to pay dollar an hour more for us to trash loading docks?

I too run cincinnati I enter my numbers at the pole park on the pad walk by the Foreman's stand hand him my bills hit the clock sign in, slowly walk out to my unhooked truck and chock the wheels and run the air while I sleep 2 or 3 hours while the futility drivers load my freight....

It's impossible to trash CTI's dock any more than it is. It's normally so full it's down to one lane/one way forklift traffic. The only way to dock any more is to raise the roof and buy/rent higher stacking forklifts.......:biglaugh:

Some of us load our freight :toxic: like good little boys :holysheep:.

FYI....IND to CLD wasn't a PSE job! It was called SERVICE ENHANCEMENT run by ROAD DRIVERS! GET OVER IT!

Why would anyone want to "get over" a contract violation that causes drivers to be laid off??????

The reason I bring it up is the only thing on that trailer (2 loads per night) is Velocity Freight-- which is old renamed PSE Freight-- which-- by the contract-- is UE Freight which MUST be run by Local Cartage as of April 1,2008. Both CTI and CLD, per the old contract were both started on the City Side. Ralph and your BA made a deal "giving it" under the Mutually Agreed To part to ignore the old Contract. The new contract says specifically that it IS part of the Local Cartage. On 4/1/2008, we should have gone back to what the contract actually says we are to do...????....
CLD is a Velocity Center (Old name-- PSE Center). Freight coming to them is run by UEs.

Read it for yourself. There is no such thing as a Service Enhancement run in the contract-- but there IS a UE Employee, and it is off the Local Side PER THE CONTRACT. Since you choose to ignore This part of the contract-- what other parts will you ignore when it's YOUR bull that being gored? We have 35 guys laid off on our side, and see our work being run by others. Doing it correctly would recall some of those laid off guys. :1036316054: :1036316054:

It walks like duck. It quacks like a duck. It poops like a duck. But you think it's Enhanced. It's still a duck............. Maybe it's a huge Drake???????

you guys need to check out some of the posts on Roadway's sight about the UE....and yes it's true in winston-salem we have roughly 30-40 grievances filed so far for coo rules violations......hearing last Fri could not resolve any issues at the local level....all have now been sent to Bi-States grievance panel....the g-man:red_bandana:

Deregulation of the trucking industry in the form of the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 caused increased competition in the Less than a TruckLoad (LTL) industry. Non-union carriers quickly began taking advantage of their lower labor costs to gain market share. Most of the companies above were union carriers who were unable to compete, though a few were non-union carriers. The trend seems destined to continue until the LTL market is entirely composed of low cost non-union carriers.

Is it just me or are you confusing something? Velosity drivers are just a fancy way of saying "Road Driver". "Utility drivers are the blend and fingerprint freight. I do not touch a pound of freight anywhere, and I am velosity based here in TXR.

Depends on what your Local agrees to. Read my post of what our Velocity/Utility does when going to CTI. We work the dock for at least 15 minutes now/ often 5 hours. There are also UEs coming there that sleep in their truck while the freight gets worked. All depends on what's been agreed to, as I can see.....

hey stpinindy its jeff down in cincy the word is the volc guys are breaking our city freight that came in that day no volc on it what so ever, takes you back to the contract no restrictions no limatations, use and abuse them make them earn that dollar, lololo

help me out please

i'm a velocity ROAD driver and i make about 1600 weekly but, i need more money.

i want to work the dock but, i have a few problems.

1st, my turnaround point has no dock.

2nd, what code do i put for dockwork on my ROAD DRIVER paysheet to get paid for it as road drivers only get paid for time signed by dispatchers and coordinators not dock foremen (i looked on the back and there is node code in the instructions).

3rd, why would i work for 22 bucks an hour getting dirty on a filthy dock when i can make 33 bucks an hour sitting in my air conditioned office with my sunglasses on listening to my satellite radio, talking to my buds on my unlimited free time cellphone, looking at all the cute skirts that drive by and not have some dockape foreman looking at me out of the corner of his eye?

BTW, there are over 200 former MBK dockapes that are now ROAD DRIVERS floating around the system do you think they are the ones sneaking up on the dock?

every paycheck i ever got here has code 420 on it how about you?

please help me out here as i got hired to be ROAD DRIVER and that's all i want to do is jump into my orange space capsule and drive.

i have been to CTI and IND and i would like to know how find the dock so i can make all that extra cash (just before this change, i drove to STP 3 times a week for 8 years and i still don't know where the dock is).

could it be you guys are talking about utility drivers and don't they have the right per the contract to be up on the dock?

didn't both you guys have an opportunity to bid utility positions and didn't avail yourselves of them?

don't worry, next contract, all hourly people will be utility people.
