It's October and open enrollment time and FedEx announces a new health plan. It's a zero deductible, zero out of pocket plan. A few copays here and there, but nothing crazy. About 40 or so for a specialist visit. How much of a premium are you willing to pay? Specify if it's employee, employee+child, employee+spouse or family. I currently pay around 90 per check for 80/20 family with the 150 charge. I'd probably be willing to go up to 130 or 140 per week.

At the same rate of pay? Sure are alot of variables I don't know. Like to see how it comes out on paper first. Definitely not a one plan fits all.

I was talking to a recruiter yesterday and we were discussing the benefits package. I don't have the health insurance plans in front of me now but the coverage was decent but also pricey. I'll post it later today when when I have a chance.

I ask the question because it's doable, but expensive so I was curious as to how much of a premium people would be willing to pay.

The zero deductible plan is 100% coverage is zero out of pocket for preventative care, screenings, immunizations, inpatient hospital care, maternity costs and physical therapy, all in network. The weekly cost is

individual 50.89
Child(ren) 136.48
Spouse 136.48
Family 151.53

There's also an 80/20 plan which is identical to ours

Employee 35.95
Child(ren) 107.89
Spouse 107.89
Family 121.67

And what they call.a high deductible plan, which is cheap but doesn't cover much.

High deductible plans allow you to put $4,850 into a Health Savings Account. The amount is adjusted each year for inflation. It goes in tax free and comes out tax free. Ours in at Optum Bank. Money can be kept in an interest bearing account or invested in mutual funds. Instead of throwing money at an insurance policy you may not use, you build a pool of money that can be used for medical bills or invested for retirement, tax free.

Family max for the HSA at this company is 7750 for family and 3850 for individual.

That's a good point.

Correct, but at 55 and older, you are allowed an extra 1000 per year. You also can no longer contribute after you qualify for Medicare. HSA contributions are set by federal law. Penalties and taxes are accessed if too much is put into the account.

I can answer this without much math for us workersā€¦ much more math for FedEx. Can you afford an organized workforce?

I'm looking at it more from a middle ground perspective. FedEx doesn't want a union, employees want Cadillac insurance. Offer the insurance with a premium attached. Because everybody keeps saying the insurance is important, how much of a premium are employees willing to pay? It's not meant to be a union discussion.

Not under obummercare laws. We had it before with if I remember correctly $25 for regular doc, $40 for specialist and $100 for ER, everything else was covered.
So are we blaming Obamacare for why the insurance at FedEx has gotten worse?

This is a serious question, Iā€™m not familiar or up to date with any Obamacare info

It was both the reason and excuse fedex used to get rid of our "cadillac" plan since the company was self insured with BCBS as admin at the time. And the company has used that excuse ever since.

I don't think we're self insured anymore since that also brought fines under obummercare if I remember correctly. Unions still have their healthcare plans because they are exempt from certain provisions of the law.

Hmm interesting.. I sure remember the BCBS. That was pretty decent insurance for sure. I lost my primary doctor once we went to this crap. Thatā€™s how I knew automatically it was for the worse
