And if you do go out, have an accident or, God forbid, kill someone, it will you who be fired as they will tell you that you should've known not to drive in bad weather.

Me? I am captain of my own ship and make the decision whether to continue for the reasons stated above, not dispatch or anybody. Last week I made the attempt, went 30 miles in an hour, turned around, went back to the terminal and told dispatch it was too dangerous for me and went home. Nothing was said. A few times when it was snowing in years past I went out the gate, down the street, made a u-turn and came back. Again, nothing was said.

The truth is they can't fire you if you decide it's too dangerous. Some companies have fired drivers in the past for not taking a load in bad weather and they ALL lost in court. Don't be a hero as no freight is worth a life or your job. It can wait.

Take it somewhere else...

Things you do to make Rob his millions. Lets see what it takes to make a millionare!!!

You know, I really would like to make a very honest comment about your remarks, but I'm going to hold my tongue...Rob could have sold out a long, long, long, long time ago and had more money than he would ever spent..If Rob was greedy, he would have done just that, but he didn't...I love to hear folks B_TCH when they're making a full weeks work.. I would tell you just to be thankful, but something tells me that your not the type..maybe your family is ...and by the way, I would wager that Rob is already a millionaire....And by the way, I attended a company meeting in South Carolina a couple of years ago, and happened to be just outside the front lobby when Rob arrived...Driving his Ford sedan (just like the one I was driving) ...with a duffel bag, a Wal-Mart sack, and his shirt on a hanger..Didn't look like he was very concerned about being a millionaire....or millionare as you so eloquently stated..

My Apology

Things you do to make Rob his millions. Lets see what it takes to make a millionare!!!

Day Cab **** Star,

I would like to offer you my most sincere apology. I don't know you, but I did personally vilify you as if I did. I don't know your situation. I don't know your terminal. I am a Estes sales rep that works at one of the best terminals in the system. I wish that you could witness it. We truly have a team, and I wish that I could mention my heroes by name. All that I can tell you is that our business levels are up over last year, and last year we were up over the previous year. Why? Because I work with a group of professional drivers that know the importance of building relationships with customers. ...With a group of drivers that understand "big picture thinking"..I've been in this business for over 30 years, and I've never seen things quite like they are..I have customers that ship only a couple of shipments, every other week, and they are getting the benefit of 85% pricing or better (or worse, depending on your perspective)..This is only going to get worse in the short term, as many of our competitors are trying to take us down with them..

I do honestly apologize, as I truly was out of line..I don't know your circumstances..but I know mine...and I am very proud to be where I am...and I hope that on some level, you are as well.

I hope for you only the best my friend and fellow employee...

You don't need to hold your tongue Mr.13 yrs as a Mgr for YRC! Doesn't sound like you are a driver so it's ok to step on our necks while you claw your way to the top,do you have a clue to what a driver does or are you concerned that your numbers look good. The 'OLD GUARD' is gone, long forgotten that they helped built this Co. Improvise, adapt, make it work for you! Used to have a good re pore with our customers when everyone had a set run, new term is 'as where needed' everyday is a new adventure! Start times being moved back, strips late,so a domino effect happens and the customers suffer. We as drivers are being ham stringed by college boys who are too busy with spreadsheets and numbers and still can't figure it out.New plan is to load the trl by zip codes so no more arranging your freight.Feel free to pass this on to Rob next time your hanging out front, the Co is going down the crapper! Moral is low! Pride has fallen by the wayside! Here's a clue, get out of your cubical and get in the jump seat and bring your work gloves. Yes I'm happy to have a job,but that's all it is and change the slogan "service is what we deliver" to "we will get there sometime in the near future"

Well my friend, I have run P & D, but not over the road..I'm not in a position to pass anything on to Rob. You can do that yourself. No cubical here my friend...88,000 on my trusty old Taurus chasing business last year..

Peace and love to you....and I hope that you find a company where you can be happy..honestly.. :)

And you are absolutely correct my brother....I was at Yellow for 13 years...and I'm not necessarily a religious man (possibly spiritual), but I thank God every day that I ended up where I am....There will be many trucking companies that will not make it through this year...But I do believe that we are one that will.

Again, peace and love to you my brother..

No disrespect, but I hope you leave yellow's buisness philosophy with yellow seeing how they are working so well over there. Again not having anything to do with you, but I wonder if some of the BS is coming from guys we hire from YRC, FED EX, ect in possitions higher than yours. If your actually catching freight that you are chasing for 88k miles a year then Good job...

Well, just as info, I left Yellow over 12 years ago. I've been with Estes going on 5 years..

I get ya and as stated it wasn't directed right at you, meant more as a general statement.. just some of the things they've been doing and how they are treating people the last couple of years I don't "think" were the visions of Estes Sr.

I understand...

I understand my brother..Unfortunately, things are not like they were a few years ago. We are going to have to get better, and faster, and cheaper to compete. The biggest advantage that we have is that we do not yet have any foreign competition in our particular industry, like so many other industries in our country are having to deal with....but in a sense, that is the nature of our industry....Rob's vision will have to be different than his father's vision, which was different that his father's vision. What worked in the 1950's will not work today..Likewise, what worked in the 60's, 70's and 80's will not work either..We have to have a different sort of vision to navigate these difficult times. Fiscal responsibility and the willingness to compete are the attributes that I feel will keep us viable and pertinent. We might not like all of the changes that we will face, but for the good and longevity of our company...ie ...our jobs, we must embrace them with as much enthusiasm as we can muster, and trust those that have got us to where we are...If...and that is a very, very, very big if...If the economy recovers to a state where it is anywhere near it's previous levels, we will be in a very good position..What more could we possibly hope for, in this time where the only thing definite is uncertainty..

Peace, love and happiness to all of my Estes brothers..

Didn't mean to leave out my Estes sisters...Women make the world go around...and they also make trucking companies succeed!

We are going to have to get better, and faster, and cheaper to compete. Ok I hear what your saying, you can't reinvent the wheel only improve it and change is difficult for some to adapt to including me (kinda set in my ways) to be faster i would think hiring more people would help instead of working folks 60hrs a week this leads to mediocre work thus more tore up freight, and cheaper, well we've been doing straight time up to a few years ago until we bought GI. I don't have all the ans if I did I'd be Robs right hand man! Keep selling and get the good freight, stay away from the junk

It's funny how the drivers that been around this place know how it USED TO BE. Things were better, but the big word of the day is do it CHEAPER, FASTER, ETC...... that must explain why 6 years ago we could take a whole trailer full of goodies and bust it down in no time, but now we got fancy computers on the lifts, fill this and that.
Stuff that just gets in the way of moving frieght in my book, But I will gladly admit I am OLD SCHOOL, and sure seemed like this company ran better doing it the OLD SCHOOL WAY.

I think they call that,in todays business,"playing the game"..You have to learn to play the game..XBOX maybe..Peoples lives, definitely not..
