Who are the utility employees going to be?
Is it the current casuals, new hires,or the people who get laid off going to brought back as a utlity employee...?:Bondage:

The utillity drivers will be current employees either city or road. Everybody will be given a one time chance to bid on the position. The most senior city or roadman will be given the job. A causal could not get the job. If no one bids the bottom of seniority will forced on the job.

A laid off person would have a chance to bid on the job.

Most likely those with high seniority will bid. This position will pay better because of the higher hourly pay

Utility Driver; This new position will be bid based on seniority from the "road" and "local cartage" boards.

you won't know

every barn has been told something different. you won't know the rules of utility drivers until someone files a grievance. More questions. if your barn has year and a day, what happens to a road driver when he bids off utility? Equalization gonna be hard to track, ain't it? If your barn is closed between 10 pm and 4 am and they call in a 4 hour casual at 11pm and he's gone by 3:30 am, do you get to file for the work or wasn't it yours to begin with because the barn was closed.:nutkick::chairshot:

Utility Driver; This new position will be bid based on seniority from the "road" and "local cartage" boards.

Please Read the contract again. This is a local cartage position. There is no guarantee that road drivers can bid on this position. If you do get the Utility Driver position and get bumped later, you have no return rights the the road and you go to the bottom of the city board.

YRCW and UTILITY DRIVERS

On YRC Worldwide you can listen to the YRC Worldwide Analyst Meeting and Q4 2007 Earnings Conference Call. YRC plans to implement the use of the Utility Driver as soon as possible. They claim that the Utility Driver will greatly change the current operation at Holland and the other regional companies. This is very different than the idea that this will be used for "New Business" that our Leadership has promised.
They also plan to utilize the new number of days worked to receive you Health and Welfare benefits to their advantage. There was a lot of talk about these two issues.
Listen the the meeting yourself and form your own opinions.

This interesting too.From the transcript.

Tom Watawich - J.P. Morgan

So just a follow-up and then I’ll hand it off to someone else -- shouldn’t it take a while to get new employees where you can use casuals and affect the mix? Or can you apply these new things to existing employees and immediately --

Michael J. Smid

Right, the casuals will be applied April 1st. We will also have network changes in both Yellow, or all of Yellow Roadway and Holland, whereby we implement the initial phases of this utility employee very quickly. You’ll see significant changes to these networks aggressively over the course of 2008 to utilize the contract, so it’s fairly quick.

So all laid off will be back by April? We`ll see about that.

Thanks

Hey, they don't hide anything. We all should have a copy of our new transcript because that is what the contract will be.

Thanks for finding that:1036316054:

Yep, A.S.A.P.

Thanks there Slippery sleuth,Finally had a chance to read the minutes from the so called press conference..Actually read some more than once From what I read Old Yella isn't really doing that bad..I believe this old gloom and doom is nothing more than a charade to scare guys into accepting a sub poor contract,If it does pass and it properly will, the next four years they will have record profits again and the average worker will yet again fall behind as we have the last 2 contracts Most important whether you like it or not send in your ballots and make your vote count....

I got a bad feeling there won't be much road work to go back to. It sounded like to me Holland is going to be mostly UE's. I hope I'm wrong but if you listen to the call from Monday they are already adding a day to what the union said they would use the UE's for. Zollars said Yellow and Roadway would use UE's in the 2 and 3 day lanes. That is about 80% of Yellows business. Still researching those #'s

u r wrong ........if u bid utility then u can rebid to the dockor city next bid , then the next time u bid u can go back to utility.......this will always happen in april and oct. .......u can never go back to road....

It's possible, and I stress the word possible, that some of us are reading way too much into the show last Monday that was put on for the benefit Wall St. types who may give YRC a more favorable rating after hearing the rah rah BS. Why distrust every other thing YRC says but cling to this like it was gospel? This 'show' was probably more damage control than it was a peak into the future as far as how the UE will take over this job and that job. People need to ask themselves this.......with all of the operational boners they make on a daily basis how will they suddenly be able to implement the UE in a smooth and quick manner? Selling it to Wall St. is one thing...if they even bought it....actually doing it is a compltely different story.

does the eu effect the road more than the city? from a the city side of it,what will the eu do??? if you have a hot shipment wouldnt the next driver out take it ???whats the point???

Better Pay?

How can you say that this job will pay better? Figure what the same run would pay by the mile verses by the hour and tell me which one pays better. Even if a road driver manages to keep his job and becomes a Utility Driver you WILL take a pay cut.
