I've not had one of those for a long time, except for the time the Dallas driver brought me two flats on the same side of a dolly. :P

Why do you have two tires on that side? lol

I had 4 of those recaps on that night the first one came apart 50 miles from the yard the second one blew 50 mile further down the road. 2 in one night needless to sey I didn't make to my destination that night . We really save alot of money that night.

Jeff did you do a proper pretrip?

Yup... the tires only have 20k on them

How much weight did you have on your lead hook Jeff?
[/quote]

16 or 17 on the drive

It just looks like a faulty tire to me .... the entire cap did not blow off ... look at the seam ..it left a single row of tread thats not a normal blow out that I have seen ... Not much of a way to catch that on a pre trip.

They do look great don't they? They've never been off the rack as long as I've been driving the truck, except when they put on a new rack. :kicking:

You mean the cap only had 20,000 on it. Lord only knows how many miles the tire actually has on it.

That is a classic example of a belt seperation (not a cap problem). Most likely the tire was punctured (nail? chain link?) and run low on pressure. Heat buildup causes the belts to seperate like you see in the picture. Also, if only the cap came off you wouldn't see the exposed belts. There would be virgin tread still covering them. With a good load it doesn't take a long time for this to happen. The tire may have been fine at the start of the trip (I mean geez, I'm not going to say anything about a bad pretrip to the leader of TB :iamnotworthy:)
A 2nd possibility is that the casing had a defect (puncture not repaired before being recapped or an old puncture that allowed the belts to rust) which will also do this same thing. But that isn't common any more with the x-ray machines and other devises used to inspect the casings before recapping.
I don't know about "former" FXE locations but at West we didn't use casings over 5yrs old for anything but yard dogs.

I got a small bolt in my dolly tire this week.... The air system kept pressure up till I got home,,,, (yes I found it on the POST TRIP) .... Anyway,,,, it is sitting waiting for a tire/wheel to be shipped from Dallas,,,, instead of just having a vendor come to the yard and fix it in 15 minutes.... Now they ship a tire/wheel several hundred miles,,,,(both ways) PLUS still pay the vendor,,,,,
idiots.............

man that sucks! Maybe they'll get there and fix it quick? Good luck!

this was last Friday, not today, they got there in a flash (3 hrs and 15 mins) after waithiung for the meet driver an hour and a half and getting the extension, my day ended about 1130pm that night

With all the training I've received so far with Fedex Freight. I'd say you probably could of looked into the future, and known you were going to have a blow out.
I swear by the time I get done with training, I'm either going to be really smart or not be able to drive a truck anymore.
