Same here. All loads sit forever while the dock fills for hours so they can get that 50 pound box to fill that whole and close the door. Sits for a day and overnight sometimes. Ridiculous.

They suck. 1980 technology. they store in the ceiling and cut down on inside height.

Yes. If I stack I use the idiot bars. Anyone can stack with those.
Remember when we didn't have them? You were a real stacker then.
Now. It's even easier. But still. They just pile up at the end of the dock or between the doors because they don't use them.

M. We have 20 plus year dock people at our place that will not get off the forklift to put bars on the rear of the load. So they let the supervisors do it. No kidding.

Wow. I do believe. They do it at our place too. Even after being told not to. I have well over 20. Over 25. Mostly dock. Responsibility. It's not that I like the company. But I do get off my butt and put a deck bar in when needed. I unloaded a trailer from Waco about a month ago. That thing unloaded like a block of ice going over a frozen pond. Someone did it right. That's how I want someone at the other end getting what I load. Not a hectic pile of ::shit::. We get paid by the hour. And besides. Some of those guys probably need the exercise by getting up and doing it. Hell. They pay you to exercise!
 
Those conferences are just designed to impress stock analysts that really don't know anything about trucking anyway, and are obsessed with technology. Load bars, dock tablets, dimensioners are meaningless when used by an apathetic work force. I used to go into a local business that had a sign that read apathy is a company killer!! This company will not perform as well as it should until Welch gives the work force a reason to believe in this company again. A simple gesture like restoring the vacation schedule would give people a reason to buy in again and would have a much more positive impact on our operations than any technology they invest in. If they did that or something similar I would guarantee the best OR since the recession next year. But we all know the geniuses at Overland Park will never figure that out.

Well said. Moral is at a all time low.
 
If Management wanted to do something about damage then the first thing I would buy is trailers like Estes has where their are mutiple slots in the sides of the trailer so you can put a deck bar just about anywhere in the trailer.

All the bars in the world will not help damages if people will not use them, and do it properly.

That. Is true. I knew nothing about LTL in 86. Self motivated and self taught. The only thing someone showed me how to do was hook a set. That's it.
Motivation is the key word. I was motivated with two kids and a new job. And at what they started me at was almost twice what I was making before. So I was motivated.
