I would love for her to get a higher paying job but for now she is happy where she is and you can’t beat the flexibility when you have kids. And I never said I wanted anything income based I’m just stating what I think is fact. But if they implemented a lower fee like you mentioned I would be fine with that I’d just tell my wife to work some more.
We could have a lower fee if a 100% would pay the fine it could lowered to maybe $80 for a spouse option. And there’s a lot of full time working spouses who make minimum wage and offered benefits. On funny note if told my wife to work more Fedex wouldn’t have to worry about benefits for me anymore.

At my hub, only the senior guys run. I work the dock more than I run. I only get to run because I took an over night. There's only 2 of us on the shift and the other guy passes it down 75% of the time because he has to be home by a certain time for personal reasons. He makes up the money on voluntary weekend runs. I sign up for every weekend and I've never been called.
Hang in there it usually takes 4-6 years to start getting decent hours I hope things improve and I’m not being sarcastic

I agree. The senior guys need to dig in and make sure we get our hours let the new guys stay home a few days a week. We do have it good here stay put get your hours and use the new guys to cover vacation season I don’t think they will go anywhere over the winter.
Was thinking the same

Well maybe that’s how you get out of paying the 150 if you have to. And I don’t see the fee being lower if we all payed it, seems more like a flat rate. And I based my statement of being able to pay for it based off 2 incomes from the labor statistics which stated that the average wage for a full time 40hrs a week is 47k.

It’s pretty simple we disagree. You say it sucks to have the fee but since my spouse has a full time job I can afford it. I say the job you’re spouse has that she loves and only works part because it’s flexible needs to pay also it’s just as costly for Fedex to pay your wife’s premiums as for mine the flat fee could be $75 for both if we both paid. So if you’re wife works part time she makes $ 23500.00 using your quote of avg 47k for full time $75 per month no big deal.

Not sure what we disagree on. I already said if they had a lower fee for my wife that I would pay it.

I came into this knowing it was the long game. One of the things I tell newer people is watch who you surround yourself with. Misery loves company and that'll make these dock shifts feel like eternity.

As for the hours, that's why I made it a point to get that seniority issue resolved. That one spot doesn't matter now, but it will when that road spot opens up or a route becomes available.

Pretty much agree about the only thing that bothers me after 22 years is the way they handle the spouse surcharge managers come and go but benefit policies never really favor us.

That's an issue with an any publicly traded company. The only thing that matters is the bottom line. They're only concern is trimming the fat. Some companies have better butchers.

May have my own loophole spouses employer very interested in classifying her as a contractor. Once we talked about carrying her on their company insurance. If this works out finger to Fred. Spouses employer does not offer insurance to contractors.

All of this, while we operated at a 89.8 O/R (10.2 margin) for the quarter AND after record setting results this past year... Ya gotta agree that the timing is extremely poor for any benefit cut.

Next up, the raise. How will record setting performance (at FedEx Freight) effect that? Stay tuned.

The word I’m getting this was just the first stage of a spouse fine to soften the blow. 2021 will include every spouse regardless of benefit availability. Not trying to stir things up just a good possibility.

Old dominion turned some good numbers probably from just running a LTL company without the baggage of other entities.
