XPO | what did you think of dougs video?

I saw the video. I had a daughter born that same year. Heartbreaking to hear that story.

Anybody pick up on him saying the freight can wait if there is ice and snow? "We wont send you out in the blinding snow and ice"

That's what I posted in my experience earlier in the post. HOWEVER..... I think a lot of you are going to have an uphill battle with your fozzy's. That's where the battle will be. You will have to stick to your guns on this. Get your regional safety managers phone number. If you are threatened with your job for refusing to run in bad weather, ask your fos for it in writing. Do not refuse the run.... go a couple of miles, and if you feel it's not safe, shut it down and call linehaul. Once you are safe, call your regional HR person, and the regional safety manager and tell them what happened. You have to follow through and put the responsibility on the people causing the problems.

I feel bad for the guy. Nobody should have to go through that. My question is why now? 12 years after that horrible tragedy.

i agree the loss of a child is the worst thing humanly possible. the purpose of the video is to tell everyone not just con-way employees but any one who even comes in contact with us safety is first. it starts at home and flows to every aspect of every thing we do every where we go. safety is a shared responsabily all around us. every accident is preventable mabe we could not prevent it but it can be prevented.

he said in the video he had been living by these principals at home. then a board member said con-way talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.

What makes their problems any different yhan anyone elses? Families that work for this company loose members all the time. The only difference is that the upper management has the soap box they can stand on and make a video. I haven't seen a video of someones wife talk about a accident that claimed his life have you? Once again, Dougie has his golden parachute, Where is my pension? oh yea, funding his parachute. How forgetfull of me.

Your pension money is funding your 401K. every quarter. You don't understand that just like everybody else. That's a fact. Doug has other things funding his parachute, but not your pension money. Please understand your benefits. And quit grandstanding yourself.

How can you comment on something you've not even watched?

Doug was not forced to "make" this video. He chose to do so. He put himself on the pedestal. He was not forced to do so.

I find it quite interesting that you would "find and then fire" people that live in the U.S.A. and can speak freely on whatever they want, when they want (maybe read the First Amendment) and then you follow that up with,
"this is the united states of america and also the land of oppotunity and just bcuz he is the ceo of a large company doesnt make his tragedy any easier to cope with had any of us been faced with the same tragedy"

I guess we know who you'll be voting for in November.
republican all the way dude.i would never put my name next to a "D".

and after i have seen the video, which might i add is the first video i have ever paid attn to in my entire tenure here at conway.the video is the only thing that has ever motivated me to become even safer than i try to be already.first of all if i ever hit and kill a child im done driving period, and i realize i would already be fired but i doubt i could get behing the wheel of a semi again.and all the political mumbo jumbo i talked about was referring to the jealousy of your place in the world vs. another mans ,the land of opportunity in relation to him being a ceo of conway, yes he makes way more than i do but i am happy and my family lives a comfortable life thanks to conway.and as far as the firing ,yep id fire every gd one of the guys making sny remarks about me opening up and having the guts to speak of the passing of my daughter ,god bless her . thanks boss great job.

I think a lot of comments were posted (including myself) before we actually saw the video.

After all this firing over this one thread , theres not going to be many drivers left!! We all heard it so much in our time with Conway , now we have employees wanting to fire employees over a video that someone shouldn't have made in the first place .. Especially with his personal business attempting to prove a point that this company don't practice !

my safety man tells me the extension is not used for driving time only for dock work breakdowns etc it does not extend driving time beyond 11 hours the adverse weather rule is different it will allow you 2 more hours to drive if the run can normally be run in 11 hours
you're correct, my wording was wrong. the extension gives you 2 hours more and no extra driving time.we have been told here that the adverse weather exemption is to get to the next safe haven. not to complete the run as you stated.guess it depends on who your safety person is as to how they interpret this.

First of all, When I came to work here, I had a pension and a 401k. When the contribution was re-instated after the cuts, I was not given my full match back. So really you are wrong. Secondly, I have my opinion and you have yours. Yes safety is important. Dougie is not going to reach his goal. It's impossible. What are they going to do with all of the bonus money they are going to keep because someone has a small accident? All accidents are preventable????? B.S. That came from someone that has never been behind the wheel of a truck.

He said that with the caveat that not all the preventable factors were in the control of the driver. Of course my accident was preventable. I could have called off today.

He said he needs to give this teeth somehow. That those in charge must be held accountable. He will get no resistance from the drivers. We have been pleading for a stronger safety culture. And been begging for it to be enforced from the top. This is obviously a call to all the grey shirts. Safety must be the number one priority. And he has to understand that those of us at the bottom of the totem poll are fighting WITH HIM to make it that way.

After seeing this video for myself. I am skeptical. What will he do to end the " get it done " attitude and install this " get it done safely " attitude ?

Progressive loading for instance. Instead of having someone accountable for loading the trailer high and tight with the weight just right. We got a bunch of guys slamming the freight in there any old way and rushing off to their next motor move.

I wish I had an answer. Something intelligent to say to help. This is after all MY safety we are talking about. Of course I care. I am invested. How do you get that to the grey shirts ? To be invested in the safety of others ?

The 3,4, or 5 % quarterly is money that replaced the pension. That is all I was talking about. That is not my opinion. That's a fact. The 401 match is entirely different story. If you understood how things worked and not be one of those grumblers that doug was talking about. ..you would feel better. I'm sure you've got a good one-liner ready for me that will get you high-fives from Rat.

They have also added trailer cubes to the weekly, monthly etc. Score card. Told us we were not measuring the freight properly. Told us that during the safety meeting. Looks like numbers are still number 1
Now that, is my opinion. I don't know for sure
