Freight Teamsters as we knew it don't exsist anymore sad but true! I hope it goes somewhere but where has organizing been for the past 30 yrs..With the pension a thing of the past and the remaining union lines struggling to remain in business there's not much to offer today. I hate to say it but the opposition did a fine job with the perception of unions in this country. The Teamsters Union unfortunately waited to long to go after the big fish. The remaining Teamsters that remember what the brotherhood was like are dying off and no one takes our place. I think we had a WE society then and now it's all about ME!
I don't come on the YRC Forum too much, but I want to share something with you guys. Last week a friend of mine filled out an application at one of YRC's terminals(won't say which one. I know who follows these forums) and at the completion of the interview, my friend ask about Teamster Sign-up at the end of his 30 days.. The TM told him that since the State of Louisiana was a Right-To-Work state, it wasn't required by Teamster contract to sign up if he didn't want to, he would receive all the bennies that a union worker would get. WTH? When did union shop TM's been allowed to do this? He said there were even signs up in the terminal about Right-To-Work Laws. How long has this been going on at union shops guys? I have been out of the Teamsters since '82, but his seems to make very strange bedfellows here, if they are allowed to convince the worker to stay non-union at a union shop.
I told him he better join, or the workers would run him out on a rail car... Of course he will, if he decides to take the job... You guy have a good day and be safe out there...
It's been going on for a while, Loon. Not much the union can do. In Chicago union stewards do orientation. That helps.I don't come on the YRC Forum too much, but I want to share something with you guys. Last week a friend of mine filled out an application at one of YRC's terminals(won't say which one. One issue I've long been baffled about is the negative attitude some Teamsters have (and show) toward non-union freight people. That's certainly not the way to win over the nons and get them to become Teamsters. When Teamsters degrade and insult non union types why would anyone expect them to want to become "brothers"?
if you like the nons thats you
how can you continue to like
when your job is being taken away
right in your face
the nons can do it right just like us
and refuse to any part of the loss of
pride in the usa
Thats all Greek to me there Platoif you like the nons thats you

That's easy he feels any non union driver is taking his job away,
yes
said driver should sit home and collect welfare until he can get employment from a union carrier instead of working for a living....
no
....... I wonder if UPSF would also irk him since they work under a different contract...................................

I pay little attention to those on here that speak ill of folks.. It just shows their misguided and self-righteous mentality... It wouldn't matter to me whether they are represented or not.. I worked non-union for over 20 years after the closure of Red Ball. They're good folks, as well as the Teamster brothers I worked with at Red Ball.. I speak ill of no one, I don't personally know.. Unless they display a reason to doubt their sanity...
