FedEx Freight | Can't shoot us down!

Check this out..

Maybe we will get a mechanism to warrant high beams next!!

FedEx flight marked the start of operational testing and evaluation of the laser system designed to defend against shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles during takeoffs and landings.....

Jet with anti-missile system leaves LAX - Yahoo! News
i saw that at work today as well, if you have ever seen the pics of the DHL plane shot down in baghdad this is a good thing. if you haven't seen em, ill post on here - was brought down by a SAMS heat seeking missle, shoulder fired.

So do they shoot a missle at it to test the system ?? Seriously, I read this is ultimately for passenger planes, but they wanted to test it on a cargo plane to avoid panicing the public..

I am interested as my sister is a flight attendent for a major airline... She has sent me pictures of Afganistan,,, along with their military escort... I wish I still had them.....

OK - they are using a simulated laser to lock onto the planes signature just like an actual missle would, that is how they are testing this.

First pic is the terrorists before the SAM (Heat Seaking Missle) was fired:

This was in late 2003 / early 2004. The plane took off from Baghdad International and did not follow the flight plan to climb to safety. FedEx also lands planes at this airport (contracted out currently) and DHL was bringing in the mail for the troops.

Good pics Rob. Can you say "Lucky" ??? If thats an SA7, aren't they heat seekers? If so, it should have ran right up the tail pipe. Not good !

That was good they were able to bring it back down.
Thanks Rob they were some good photos.

We need to arm our photographers. Instead of taking pictures of the bad guys, shoot em before they launch the rocket........

I wasn't going to say anything.. but, I was for sure thinking the same thing! :hysterical:
yeah, the pics were obviously a recruiting tool by the terrorists whoe turned them into al-jeezera ... and yes it was a SAM-7, from what i was told about the incident it was a heat seeker but didn't end up at the tail pipe behind the rear fin, but rather at the heat signature of the left engine ... either way, they landed. here is a link:

I would have hated to be the janitor that had to clean the pilots seats and cockpit that day!

When they install missiles on my road unit for those ID-10-T drivers, that's when I'll be happy, there are some out there that deserve em!

Yes, yes and yes.

Anyone that comedian Carlos Mencia can refer to as "Dee De Dee" will fit the bill. :hysterical:
