CHP hopes video will convince truckers to stop at brake check area

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is hoping that truckers learn from the mistakes of a driver whose truck allegedly caught fire after skipping a required brake inspection area.

On Sunday, CHP’s Gold Run Division shared dramatic video of a semi trailer heavily damaged by fire along with a reminder about required brake check areas.

From CHP:

“Vehicle fire WB I-80 at Secret Town Exit. #2 lane temporarily closed. All tractor trailers are required to use the Brake Inspection area WB at Nyack. Also, if you are driving a tractor trailer, you should know not to ride your brakes, but to also use the engine brake to slow your vehicle down as you descend the mountains.”

Last year, CHP’s Gold Run Division reported that a truck driver traveling in the same area failed to stop in the brake check area and lost control of their brakes, resulting in a crash.
