Yellow | Great Day For Teamster Retirees, Present & Future!

And the socialism continues. Depending on and expecting big brother to take care of your every need.
Here's an idea, why not let everyone work at whatever they are good at, put it all in one pot and divide it equally. You know, like Karl Marx said, "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need." That is the Communist Manifesto.
This situation has nothing to do with socialism, communism or any other ism you want to call it. This is about doing what is right to fix something that is wrong. It has been done many times before in this country for corporations, banks, auto makers, farmers , coal miners and others. You and a few others on this forum are just angry because a certain political party that you "disagree with" is finally fixing a problem that your political party ignored for close to 10 years. Ain't that something! Today I am going to give you a new word for your vocabulary it is called PENSIONISM and it will become law today.:usa::usa2::grouphug:

Some good info on the multiple causes of the pension problem...

Overview of Multiemployer Pension System Issues
Triplex, good read. I am not disputing a lot of the facts in this article. But this issue has been discussed in the Congress for how many years now? At this point in this country these people cannot agree on what day it is. How long are we going to wait for somebody in Washington to open up their eyes and move on this problem? Why do hard working people who followed the rules put in front of them have to lose everything that they have worked for because of these bums in Washington who have pensions and other perks won't feel peoples pain and work together for a solution. Well now 1 party has offered help and no matter what their intensions politically are I for one applaud them. I may be selfish because I will be dramatically affected by this issue but I also have compassion for all of the other teamster families that are not financially healthy enough to at least live their final years with dignity and free from the daily pressures of life. I am not a big "political guy" like others on this forum, and I respect every mans opinion but I do have compassion in my heart for people who worked all of their life in order to live with a little bit of dignity in their later years. Remember my friend one day you too will become a senior citizen.:hide::hilarious::wavey:

Yes, Seabreeze and I are both looking forward to becoming senior citizens and finally having seniority on Truckingboards! :smile new:

Roady, it will help me also since my pension has already been cut. But I do wish there had been some reforms required in the various pension programs. I feel this is a band aid and is just temporarily putting off more problems to come down the road. I do hope I'm wrong though.

It's called DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM!
Get back to me when you find the word democratic or democracy in the Constitution. Clue, those words are not there. Not there because democracy doesn't work. Not there because James Madison and his friends knew that we the people are too stupid to self govern. Not there because an 18 year old with a pulse (pulse optional in Democratic states) can't be allowed to determine the future of the country. Not there because in our "republic", a word that is in the Constitution, senators were to be appointed by state assemblies. Judges were to be appointed. Presidents were to be elected by electors appointed by state assemblies. There was to be no direct taxation of the people. Democracy is socialism. Democracy is majority rule and majority rule is unstable government. Government that changes policies, tax rates and regulations with every election. Unstable government that creates an unstable business environment where there is no long term planning or investment. No planning, no investment, no growth, no jobs. Shocker, business is where the jobs are!

You are correct. Bailouts have been done throughout recent history by both parties and every time they were wrong. A new law bankruptcy was created to save General Motors, why? The demand for cars would be the same with or without GM. Other companies would build enough cars to meet the demand. Why did the government not save Smith-Corona? Why not proclaim that the country needs typewriters? The system only works if entities are allowed to fail. The government decided to pick a winner and put 86 billion (just the beginning) into multi employer pension funds while ignoring those with no pension income.
BTW: Socialism is exactly what you describe. Government "fixing" corporations, banks, auto makers, farmers, coal miners and others. Farming is by far the most egregious. Price supports, land set asides and subsidized crop insurance cost the taxpayer $867 billion. If farmers over produce the government buys and stores the surplus. Competition and market based prices are capitalism. The farm bill is socialist.

Sounds to me you are just spewing out a political agenda we have heard for the last 4 years. That is your right and I respect your opinion, but until this country gets past all of the hate being shouted at each other nothing will get accomplished in the country for a long time. Politics belong on the political forum not the Yellow Frt. board. People on this forum can discuss and have different opinions on pension fixes but we don't need to hear your political agenda on issues that don't have anything to do with our pensions. Relax and chill out my brother and maybe we can work things out in this great country again together.

You’re hired oh I mean I was curious congratulations on getting out before 09

I feel good about getting my pension restored. I can only speak for myself, I worked hard on the dock for all them years, and to have my pension restored makes me feel good. Congratulations fellow hard workers. For the sloutchers you dont deserve it.

Question, if I am correct when you retire you can take a smaller amount and then your wife can keep getting your pension if you pass. Anybody know how that's calculated?
